There are lots of possibilities.
If the sparkplugs are fouled that can cause a weak spark, carbon residue that can ignite the incoming gas too soon.
A plugged muffler is also a common cause, and will happen the most at highest RPM.
Cross firing wires can also do it.
If nothing else, it could be a burned or misadjusted valve, which a compression test would help determine.
