Check your remote control's infrared emission first. You can check it with a cellphone with camera option. Put fresh cells to the remote control, and do the check. Put your cellphone in camera mode, and place the remote control just a feet away from its camera lens and press each button. If there is infrared rays coming from it, the cellphone cameral will sense it , and you can see its image on its screen. You here reports that you can't get it switch on from standby to ON. Keep a special attention when you press the standby button on the remote control and see whether the signals are strong enough with respect when you press other keys on your remote control. if it seems to be week or interrrupted, you have to open your remote control and perform a cleaning process. Check this first and inform me by Fixya.OK.

It is very possible that the tactile switch underneath the power button has become faulty. A little strange as these switches generally last for a long time. As the unit functions normally with the remote it cannot be a fault with the operation of the unit itself but just the power button. If it is under warranty I would contact the manufacturer or retail outlet you got it from and ask for a replacement. If it is out of warranty you could attempt to repair it yourself but to be honest tactile switches come in all different shapes and sizes and are not the easiest thing to replace if you don't have hot air soldering equipment.
If I were you I would give it a go with the manufacturer first.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa
