Sorry to say its time to take it in for repair, contact your local brother dealer for help. This can be very difficult to fix on your own. If it is a lower cost brother sewing machine, it may be cheaper to just get a new one, sometimes repairs are $70 - $80 and the cost of new one is just over 100.00

good luck please take a second to rate my solution

The tension becomes loose after sewing for a short time and I cannot seem to get a perfect tention

would be a good idea to have the machine checked to see if there is something wrong with the tension dial

My thread keeps bird nesting on the bottom of my fabric what am I doing wrong? What are the correct settings for a straight stitch?

Is your bobbin threaded correctly? You should be able to pull out the thread slowly while feeling it very slightly holding back. It should not pull out easily or quickly.
Could be something wrong with your tensions, try adjusting the upper tension first by starting at the middle setting and working gradually higher and then lower till you get a neat even stitch.

Have a singer H74 and the bobbin is stitching on the top side of the fabric also deco stitches are not coming our clear what am I doing wrong? Thx

Whenever that happens, it means that your top tension is tighter than your bottom tension, so your bobbin thread is being pulled to the top. That happens occasionally, and the solution is to loosen your top tension. Tensions are a BALANCE between top and bottom. Should this happen ALL the time, you could consider adjusting your bobbin tension, but when it happens occasionally, loosening your top tension works just fine.

I am having problems with getting the tension right when quilting with a walking foot. At first the top stitches were bobbly now the bottom stitches are wrong. What should I adjust to balance perfectl

When you are adjusting thread tension it is important to test it on fabric of the same thickness. Keep adjusting the tension while testing on similar fabric. Turn the knob just a little bit each time until you get the right tension. You might also need to do some lint cleaning.

How to thread singer merritt 3130?

Do you have a manual? If not, you can download one from It sounds like the top tension is too loose. Lowering the presser foot will engage the tension disks. The tension disks are located behind the needle thread tension dial. Slowly lower the presser foot, watching the tension disks press together. The thread passes between the tension disks around from the right, underneath and back up to the take up lever. The manual will tell you the location of these parts.

I have an Elna Lotus sewing machine. The needle thread isn't being connected with the bobbin thread yet it was sewing just fine previously.

Most frequently the needle is just in backwards or threaded from wrong side, or using the wrong needle- check it over.... The presser foot must be released to press on fabric else the tension adjuster will be set to zero tension and could cause issue. Expect simple stuff else timing was knocked out of adjustment (from striking something, etc)
Take two adjustments and call me in the morning... for real, get back to me if it isnt anything basic I will try to describe timing procedure

The bottom stitch on my Singer model 360 is loose, so I tightened the bobbin tension. It is still loose even though I have it as tight as it will go and the tread the tight when pulled.

You are adjusting the bobbin the wrong way, first make sure the top tension is about 4 or 5, slacken the bobbin tension off about a quarter of a turn at a time until you can just pul;l the thread through with slight resistence
