Question about PfaFF Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I was sewing a straight edge when all of a sudden the machine switched to zig zag stitch on me. When I try to override it and switch back to the normal setting it doesn't work. I've tried shutting the machine off for 10 seconds (as the book suggests) to let the default load in again. Upon restarting the machine the default tries to come on (last for about 2 seconds) before this unusual setting takes over. It has a number 4 on it a tension of 6.5 and a few other numbers. How can I get back to the default setting?

Hi
Try this tips
1. Remove the AC plug from the electric outlet .
2. Push and hold the push switch while re-inserting the AC plug into the electric outlet .
-Continue holding.
3. The "STATUS" LED (Orange) will
light when the factory default
configuration settings have been
restored. Release the push switch.
4. Unplug the AC plug and re-insert the
AC plug into the electric outlet.
Hopefully this can solve problem

Raw edge zig zag stitch bunching underneath

When zig zagging over a raw edge, the tension on the thread will pull in the fabric, especially in lightweight cottons or even lighter organza. Its not the best edging method for very light weight fabrics. You can try using a smaller zig zag, loosening off the top tension a little bit. Or if your machine has it, use the triple zig zag or serpentine stitch, where the needle goes through the fabric three times to make up each zig stitch, this stitch is better for edging most fabrics and is my preferred stitch.

Someone gave me a singer 403. I put in the zig zag attchment but it still sews only straight. What am I not doing??

Of course, you have to push the zig zag adjusment lever from the 1 position to one of the zig zag positions, 2-5. Also, the zig zag disc must be inserted. Take of the top of the machine (two screws to loosen the attachment and lift off the top), and you can see a steel connecting piece called the pitman and it should move back and forth when zig zag is engaged. If it isn't, maybe something is gummed up as has been suggested.

Stitch selection does not work

The switch could be bad or the mechanics that physically move the needle for the zig zag could be broken/worn. Hope you get it fixed soon!

How to sew Shell Tuck Stitch.

I can't find an image clear enough to actually see the stitch selection on the front of this machine.

Does it have a stitch that looks like three or 4 straight stitches, then one zig zag, then more straight stitches? This is the stitch you want to select to do a shell tuck.

Then hold your fabric with right side up and turn edge under about 8mm and seam along the edge using this stich so that the zig zag stitch goes over the folded edge each time to the right. This should pull in the folded edge a little giving a scalloped edge.

Just do a couple of trials to work out the best position for the folded edge on the needle plate to get the effect right, probably just the edge of the normal straight stitch but it varies for each machine. If your machine does this stitch with a variable adjustment on the width of the zig zag part, then you could finesse it with this too.

Singer Athena 2000 won't zig zag

Did you switch the metal plate to one of the ones that won't allow left/right movement by any chance?
If the wrong plate it in -The machine somehow figures out that the plate won't allow the needle to move in the left/right directions and only does a straight stitch or funky other stitches.

Zig Zag Stitch not working

THis problem occurred as I was sewing on Neoprene. I was using Gutterman all-purpose thread and a size 80 needle. Tried switching to a size 70, then to size 90. Still unable to zig zag. After inserting a test sample of cotton, the zig zag worked perfectly, so I knew it was not a mecahnical problem. I switched needles again. This time to size 90 for stretch fabric. Voila! Problem solved.

Suddenly zig zag stitch not working?

Because it is almost a straight stitch but the needle continues to move in a zig zag fashion is reason to believe it is in a long stitch. By changing the number of stitches per inch there will be a very noticeable looking zig zag stitch.
