Hello thanks for using Fixya

  • First, if this is just happening after purchasing a new card, AND your camera is an older camera, I'm going to guess that you bought a new 4GB or larger SDHC card. Although the SDHC card looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. Unfortunately your older camera was likely designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card may not work with your older camera (check your camera maker's website). You probably will need to use standard SD cards only (usually those 2GB or less). But if you REALLY need to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one. Also consider 4GB MMC cards which may also work for your particular model camera. But be prepared to pay premium price as these large capacity "non HC" cards are very scarce.
  • If you've had the card for a while, and it just recently started to show "memory card error", ask yourself if you can ever remember formatting your card IN THE CAMERA. If not, we may have discovered the problem. An unformatted card will initially work fine in a camera, but eventually will corrupt with time, especially after many files have been saved and deleted. A card can also corrupt if camera power is interrupted during the write process (such as changing batteries or batteries dying while the card is still writing the last picture taken). Formatting the card in the camera will correct both these problems, BUT it will also erase all photos on the card.format the card in your camera to prevent this from happening again (dig out your instruction manual to figure out how). Stating this once again, formatting will also totally erase your card, so only do this after you've recovered and saved to your computer any important photos from the card.
  • If the above items didn't fix the problem, I know that you probably already have checked the card's slide switch, but I just want to first present this for others with the same problem who may not know of this switch.Check to make sure that you didn't accidentally place the tiny locking slide switch on the side of your SD card in the "locked" downward position. The correct "unlocked" position should be slid up toward the direction of the connectors. If you discover that the locking switch is missing or has broken off, proceed directly below

  • If none of the above seems to work, or if you've found that you've broken the locking tab on the card, one final thing to try before opening the camera is good old tape. Cut a tiny piece of clear cellophane tape (use scissors to trim it), and place it tightly over the slot where the locking switch is, or was. I can't stress it enough, keep the piece of tape small, you don't want to jam your card in the camera. Now slide the card into the camera. If you encounter any resistance, STOP, the tape is likely too thick or too much. But if not, proceed and see if that corrects the problem.

If you've come this far and you're still getting a card error, it may be time to consider opening the camera to force open this switch, or to inspect its wiring (not recommended unless you have some familiarity with electronics). In this case contact service provider.

I hope this solution will helpful for you Your Rating As Four Thumbs which are given below to this solution will appreciate me

I have a 4GB SD memory card that I am trying to use. It says the memory card is empty or incorrect file format. I have only 4 jpegs that I compressed thinking this was the problem. How do I get it to...

The problem is that your NuVue 560 Digital Photo Player is only compatible with SD cards, not SDHC cards. You bought a larger card for your older Digital Photo Player, not noticing that it was SDHC (or not knowing that it mattered). The new card doesn't work, not because it or the Digital Photo Player is broken, but because it's not compatible.

Cards up to 2Gb are generally SD.
Cards of 4Gb are generally SDHC.
Cards over 8Gb have to be SDHC.

(There are exceptions. Sometimes, manufacturers make 4Gb SDHC cards but some have errors; they disable half of the chip and sell it as 2Gb, but it's still SDHC. 4Gb cards are almost always SDHC because they're cheaper, but 4Gb SD cards do exist. They are so rare that I've even seen a guru on this site claim they don't. I did own one once, but it was very expensive and turned out to be so unreliable that I had to return it. I don't recommend looking for one, because of the problems.)

Your solution is to go find a 2Gb card, and be extra sure that it doesn't say "SDHC" on it. Ask around your friends: someone who has a camera that can use SDHC cards might have an older 2Gb card that they'd be willing to swap ;-)

From the manual:

Installing SD Memory Card

Your camera has a memory card slot that enables you to insert any "SD" compatible memory card up to 8BG. Adding a memory card will allow you to increase the capacity of your camera before you have to transfer photos and videos to your PC. Install the SD memory card as below:

  1. Locate the Memory Card slot within the battery compartment.
  2. Insert the Memory card into the slot in the correct direction. (see the sketch below)
7
  1. Push the card in until you feel it "click" into position. The top of the card should be flushed with the surface of the camera. An icon will appear on the LCD screen after you turn on your camera.
  2. Once the external memory card is inserted into the camera all the images taken with the camera will be stored on the card.

Note:

  1. Limited internal memory is provided for test images. The image will be deleted when camera power is turned off. Please download the images before power off .SD memory card is required for normal use.
  2. An external memory card is required for normal use. Your camera supports any compatible SD memory card (up to 8GB).
  3. If there is a photo in the internal memory when you insert the card into your camera, a "Copy to card" message will appear on the LCD with Yes or No options. On selecting 'Yes' the photo will now be copied to your card.
  4. Formatting will delete all data on the SD memory card including protected data.
8
  1. Don't remove the SD card during formatting as this may damage the card and render it unusable.
  2. When your card is full, download the media on the SD card to your PC and delete the photos and videos from it in order to continue using your

Memory card Sandisk 4GB gives error memory card

The S50 uses SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card, and will not work in the S50. You will have to confine your choices to cards 2GB and smaller.

My smaller memory cards work, but my 4gb card says media error in my brother printer/scanner when I put it into the usb port (photo capture). Tried it dozens of time, doesn't work, but I was able to read...

Many older system will only support standard SD cards up to 2GB and HD SD cards will go above 2GB. It is a limitation of the printer and not an error with the card.

PNY optima sd card "card error"

You should try some photo recovery software to rescue the files on your camera card, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.
Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

The A10 uses SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work with the A10. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

File errors, distorted photos.. I hate the Samsung L100!!

regarding the use, you have to check if you are using the right memory card for your camera.

you can only use 2GB sd card or 4gb sdhc card.

try this and if you still have an error message. you better send the camera for service.
