Hey the carburetor gets clogged on all mowers real common after sitting after winter. there is a screw or a nut on the bottom of the carburetor 7/16 1/2 or 9/16 if you un screw the bottom nut there are usually two holes in the par you take out . on newer models they have a plastic bowl with a spring clip holding things up to the bottom of carb . the bowl will come loose and gas will flow so shut the valve off if the valve is in line withe the tube it should be on if you turn it so it swings out like a t it should be off. when gas sits for more than 30 days it starts to oxidize and that leaves behind a yellow deposit like plaque on your teeth and if you use carb cleaner you can wipe with a paper towel to take off residue if you dont have a wire small enough to clean the hole in the screw or nut go to Lowes or Home Depot and go to the welding section and get a torch tip cleaner it will have very tiny wires with ridges that will clean the holes real well and make sure the bowl is real clean when re installing . if it still sputters when back together you will have to get a carb kit from a lawn repair shop around 12 to 15 bucks or so if you need to see some pics let me know i can post them so you can see all the parts . also a good time to change the oil spark plug and air filter hope this helps

Hard pulling starter rope

You say Pull rope mechanism is ok, How do you know that? Ive's seen them get the rope a little off and gets caught being wedged into a small clearance. Is the rope wearing? I bet if you take it apart put a new nylon rope and some wd-40 in rubbing surfaces including the ratchet area it will be good as new. Crank bearing has to get really bad to effect pull. How is the spark?

Engine will not fire or try to start on my Troy-Bilt Super Tomahawk 2 in 1 Chipper/Shredder, 8 h.p., Tecumseh engine. Getting good spark; changed to new gas; no air blockages found.

If your getting spark no doubt its a fuel problem. Does the inside of the cylinder look wet when you removed the plug. The seals in carb go bad all the time. You need a rebuild kit most likely. Very cheap an easy to do. If its a bowl carb it should be done. Should solve your problem. Starting problems are no spark or no fuel. Carb leak an seal get weaker all the time. Gas the way its made today eats the seals away.

Troy Bilt edger dies as soon as its under a load--like edging my driveway.

The only real explanation for this is that a tiny piece of dirt has gotten into one of the tiny fuel jets. Remove the carb and blow it out thoroughly with compressed air.

I have a Troy-Bilt Model 12AVB290711, purchased 5/29 and used twice. I purchased it because it said it was easy start. I had no problem starting it the 1st time.....2nd time was problematic and took 10...

I think that your fuel is going bad. The gas we have today has ethanol in it and today's gas starts going bad after about a month. Small engine carburetors are particularly sensitive to this problem. So change the fuel and put fresh in it. But since you are not using it very much, I suggest that you put some fuel stabilizer in it so that it takes a whole lot longer to degrade, making starting once a month much easier.

I hope this is helpful for you.

Mower want start

First, pull the spark plug and see if it is wet/damp with gasoline. That's one way to tell if it is getting gas. Try starting the engine with starting fluid. If it will run with starting fluid, but not on it's own, it is a pretty good bet that there is a fuel delivery or ignition problem. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

My Troy Bilt Self Prop. Z-start won't keep running. I clean All, replace Filter and Plug, have clean gas and lubed all. It Starts for 2 seconds and then cuts off. What do you think it could be? Thanks....

I had the same problem, Tilt the lawnmower on it's side air filter facing up and remove air filter cover and air filter then remove the fuel bowl underneath the carb; then clean the fuel bowl with some gas and a clean rag. For the next step be sure to aim blower tip at target then look away before pressing trigger, this will prevent gasoline form getting into your eyes.Take an air compressor and carefully clean out the carb where the flap is and the tube where the fuel float that would rest inside fuel bowl is. Leave on side install everything back except for air filter and cover. Then pour a little gas in the carb to prime it, lay the lawnmower back on all 4 wheels and try to start.

How do I clean the fuel line on troy bilt 5hp chipper vac?

unscrew the nut on the bottom of the carburetor and remove the float bowl it must be emptied and cleaned , debree and water gets into the bowl and blocks of fuel flow reinstall the bowl and start, some carbs don't have a float bowl requiring you to remove the gas tank and carb which is a more involved cleaning.

Weed eater does not start

I had a similar problem with my troy-bilt weedeater. I tried replacing the sparkplug, replaced the fuel filter and etc. It still would not start. I looked at the troubleshooting guide in the owner's manual and it listed a possible cause as a clogged spark arrestor. I cleaned out the spark arrestor by taking it off and cleaning it with a wire brush. Now it runs like brand new again. I hope this helps.
