When this happens I simple reset the router, this is usually a small button on the back on the router you might need a paper clip to push it. Once reset the SSID will be reset to default usually DLink for that brand router. Connect as you normally would and then log into the router and re-enable security.
:::To enable security::: If you're in windows VISTA/XP/Whatever right now and you've somehow arrived to this page using google then welcome, cause these steps 1-4 are exactly the same in vista/XP!

1. Log in via http://192.168.0.1 (default "username: Admin and no pass")
2. Go to setup tab ----> internet ----> internet connection wizard

2.1 CHANGE PASSWORD ! click next
2.2 chose time zone (you know where you are)
2.3 Configure your Internet Connection
DHCP Connection (Dynamic IP Address)
Choose this if your Internet connection automatically provides you with an IP Address. Most Cable Modems use this type of connection.
2.4. press "clone your computer's MAC address" ; hostname: 'your computer name in ubuntu' ( mine is "grobar" yours is ..... )

3. Go to setup tab ----> wireless settings ----> Wireless Network Setup Wizard (after this we're gonna do manual settings)
3.1 give your network a name= SSID (e.g. 'grobar')
3.2.Automatically assign a network key (Recommended) and chose WAP or WAP2
3.3 Write down the network key!!! Or do printscr and save this page.

SSID is the acronym for Service Set IDentifier (SSID). This with just one word is the identification name for your wireless network. Depending on the router you have you cane change this name according to something you'd like to use. This name is the name of the network you will search in order to connect your wireless device (during the connection you willbe asked to provide the pass-phrase in case this WiFi is security protected)

I suggest either contacting your internet provider or try this:

  • Identify your computer's taskbar. The taskbar is the bar usually at the bottom of the screen in Windows. It starts on the left with the "Start" button.

  • 2

Take a look in your computer's task bar for an icon representing your wireless network. Look for a little computer icon with three green radio waves emitting from it; that's the Windows icon. Another version of the icon looks like four cascading horizontal bars, usually green; that's Dell's icon.

  • 3

Double-click on the icon. In the case of the Windows icon --- the one with the green radio waves --- you'll see a dialog box marked "General." One of the tabs will be labeled "General." It's the default tab, so it should show immediately.

  • 4

Look at the second line down under "Connection." It will indicate the name of the network or the SSID. The first line will be labeled "Status" and will be marked "Connected." The second line will be labeled "Network" and the text next to it is the name of the network, or the SSID.

    Ssid number

Its the NAME usually in the letter from your broadband provider, a seperate card or a sticky label on the back or base of the router

    Wireless Network
    Name (SSID) WillyWombat785837
    Key: 1234ABcD

Click on the SSID in your list of wifi networks and put in your KEY remembering to put the Case in correctly when it asks for password (confusing, wish they asked for key rather than password)

    Good luck

I needto set up the wireless network yet i cant find the ssid i was looking for help to set this up

Hi there! The SSID that you need is actually your network name if you we're the one who set up your network then you should be able to remember it. Now, if it's the first time you trying to access wireless might wanna try to contact your Internet Provider so they could help you check out what ssid and on what security your wireless is set to.

    Hope this helps!

Can't figure out the ssid number on my router

Just log into your router if you need to know it's IP address. Go to the command prompt type ipconfig /all then look for the Gateway IP address input that into your web browser and then hit enter. Go to the Network Settings page and you will see you SSID and password.

If you can't remember your password reset your router back to it's factory settings by holding the reset button for about 5 seconds. For your model/brand of router the default IP address is 192.168.2.1 The default password is "admin" Once you are connected to your router simply run the Setup Wizard. Set your SSID as something you'll remember like "Mavericks Network" and your Password can be your phone number for example 3109876543.

DO NOT REMEMBER SSID NAME GIVEN TO ROUTER WRT54GS---LOST PRINTED COPY OF SET-UP. HOW CAN I REPRINT OR JUST FIND OUT INFO

You can see the SSID name from one of your wireless computer that is already connected to the wireless network. Just point your name over the wireless little computer icon down at bottom right hand by the time. It will say there "Wireless Network Connection, Connected to "name of the network". That "name of the network" is the wireless signal name like "Linksys" or whatever name you gave to your network when you setup the router. That's the SSID name as well. Wireless Network Name = SSID.

    Wireless extender

    OK.
    It's pretty easy:
    1) turn on both devices
    2) connect to sitecom device.
    - you may have to manually set your IP address. (from network resources control panel, TCP/IP tab. Check the istructions, cause you have to choose an address in the same subnet of the sitecom range extender. I mean, the first three numbers must be the same, and the last number of the address must be different, between 3 and 255).
    - now you can type the sitecom address into the address bar of your browser (allow pop ups from that address!). The defaut user name is admin, as well the default password.
    3) Ok, now you're connected and you just have to set this way in the basic settings:
    working mode: universal repeater
now click on site survey and remember the ssid of your main network, and the channel number.
channel: type the channel number of your network (IT MAY CHANGE WHEN YOU TURN OFF\ON THE ROUTER!! so you'll have to change it maybe every day..... **** sitecom device, I HATE IT)
ssid: the ssid of your main network.
    4) click apply.
Of course if your WLAN is protected you must set the rigth password and encription algorithm...

Now it should work.. but remember, everyday you will have to change the channel, and sometimes ou will have to reset it, from he toolbo tab.

IT,S BETTER NOT TO BUY THIS DEVICE, cause even the latest firmware is not working properly.
