HI, can you tell me the procedure for 'cleaning the ink heads' on my EPSON STYLUS DX4400, Please. thank you, MARK

  1. Open the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder.
In Windows 7, click Start then Devices and Printers. In other versions of Windows:
    • Click Start > Settings > Printers, or
    • Click Start > Printers, or
    • Click Start > Control Panel then double-click on:
      • Printers, or
      • Printers and Faxes, or
      • Printers and Other Hardware then View Installed Printers.

    • See How to open the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder in Windows in the Related Articles section for detailed instructions.

  2. Right-click on the icon for your printer and select Printing Preferences.

    Example: Windows Vista

  3. This will display the Printing Preferences window.
  4. Click on the Maintenance (or Utility) tab.

  5. Click on Head Cleaning. This will launch the utility.
  6. Click Start and wait for the printer to finish the first cleaning cycle.

caution.gif Caution: Never turn off the printer while the On light is flashing. Doing so may damage the printer.

  7. Click Print Nozzle Check Pattern. This procedure will confirm the effectiveness of the head clean. You can also access the print Nozzle Check option from the Maintenance or Utility menu.

  8. Click Print.

  9. The printer will print a nozzle check. Compare the print out with the next window. If there are gaps, the print out is faint, click Clean, and then Finish when the procedure is complete.

    • If the nozzle check prints correctly (showing no breaks in the pattern), but the text is still broken you may need to run the Print Head Alignment utility - see How do I use the Print Head Alignment utility? for assistance.
  • If the nozzle check is complete, click Finish.
  • If there are gaps or faint print on your printout click Clean.

If gaps are still present, perform another head clean (without printing a nozzle check between the cleans). Once the second clean is complete, power off the printer.
Wait one minute before powering it back on, then print a nozzle check. Compare the printout with the example window (above).
  • If it is complete, click Finish.
  • If there are gaps or faint print on your printout carry out another set of head cleans.
  • We recommend only a maximum of six head cleans.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy New Year!

Thanks, Joe

Epson C62 printer. document streaking. how to find head cleaner procedure program??

Look on the CD-ROM that EPSON supplied with the printer for "utility" software that can be run to perform a head-cleaning cycle.

Or, download that software from EPSON's web-site.

The print quality was poor, not all lines printed perfectly, every 6th line was ****. i changed the print cartridge even though it was half full, not it doesnt' print black at all

Printer heads are more than likely dirty. Either use the epson software that came with the priner or right click the printer in the printer section of your PC and locate a head cleaning procedure and run it a few times.

If all else fails, they do sell long Q-tips in PC shops that will allow you to reach in and manually clean the head.

Previous hardened ink will act like a glue covering the heads and do this.

Epson also used to sell a paper product that ran through and removed dust and debris.

At any rate, it needs to be cleaned and I can't pinpoint which way, but that's it.

Epson r220 print head goes left and then makes a grinding sound

Your printer needs a service reset. Epson printers will only accept x number of cartridge changes / print head cleans. Basically it's telling you that the waste ink pad is saturated. It will cost about £30.00 from a local service centre

Printing

Sometimes, when you replace the cartridge of Epson printers, some bubles of air get inside the print head. In this case you have to do the procedure of head cleaning several times (sometimes 10 repetitions of the procedure are needed). You can clean the printer heads and make a test after each cleaning, to see if it was enough.
