The motor, the pump, or the heating element could be getting ready to fail.

Auto shutdown of PS3....when powering up, power light goes to green and after a few seconds of it running, automatically powers off and goes directly to red light

Hello and welcome to FixYa. From what you explained the first thing that comes to mind is an overheating issue. Place your hand on the top back left of the PS3 and determine how hot it is. If you were playing for an extended amount of time and your console is in a closed in space this could be the issue. I would also check the intake and exhaust vents for built up dust or foreign debris. This is all assuming when you saw the console shut down you DID NOT see a yellow light. The PS3 is designed to shutdown when a high internal temp is detected. Try what I suggested and wait half an hour before resuming play. If this does not help repost your problem and I can help you further. Good luck buddy.

I have just bought a second-hand PS3. I want to restore the whole system so I can delete the previous owners email etc., but have no instruction booklet. Please help

1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.
2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.
3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format. (will take approx 3 1/1 hours). You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn't detected after initial reset).
4. Restore your backup you made prior to doing factory/hard reset (optional, if you created a backup)

I have just recently bought a second hand PS£

Ohhhhh u got there a problem i had months ago. PS3 only gives u one output signal at a time, that means either u use it hdmi or u use it the normal rca way.Bad thing is that the ppl at sony didnt think of this kind of situation.
What u need to do is go to ur friend's house and use his hd tv to config ur ps3 to the correct output signal(rca), both on video and audio. If u bought the ps3 from ur friend, he should know how to do it, since he had to config it to hd in the first place. Be sure to probe it with the config u are going to use at home :)

I just bought a second hand upright 20cubic foot frigidair freezer. Its been on for about 3 hours and it feels really hot to the touch on both sides. Did I just get taken or is this normal? It was running...

Did you lay it down when you moved it?
If so you need to leave it standing up for 12-24 hours before you turn it on.

Or you may have just been ripped of.

My Playstation 3 turns on, and stays on for about 4 minutes then cuts back off

Generally when a system turns its self off its trying to prevent damage to the system due to either a short or due to heat. My suggestion would be try running your PS3 in a different location first, such as, if its on a shelf move it to the floor just to put it in a wider area where its less likely to overheat, secondly check to make sure its power supply adapter isn't whats causing the short. That also has a built in sensor to protect it from starting fires and / or damaging your hardware. If with both of those out in the open, possibly in a colder room - (I realise its starting to heat up and thats probably the reason this is just starting) try running it, and if the problem persists, then its your PS3 going bad and there is nothing I can do to help, but, on the other hand if it stops you know that you need to change your setup to accomodate for the heat, whether its turning on some air conditioning or placing a fan besides the PS3
*note when using an external fan in conjunction with the PS3 it works best to have it blowing away from the PS3 - that way it is sucking the hot air away from the machine rather than blowing the hot air back into the machine.
Hope this helped and if it didn't feel free to leave a comment and I'll get back to you as soon as I can =)

The yellow flashing dot of death does normally mean that your PS3 is Dead but there is a way to fix it

My PS3 would not start and the indication light just flashed between yellow and red
Your options are: New PS3 £250, PS3 from Sony second hand £150 or £5 fix
1. Undo the screw below the warranty sticker in bottom of PS3
2. Slide the lid of
3. Remove all bolts
4. Remove all main components until the mother board is free from the unit
5. Remove the thermal gel on the back of the 2 main chips to the heat sinks
6. Clean any excess dust by blowing away do not use and dusters or leky equipment
7. Level up the m board and heat over all the board with a heat gun, needs to be really hot to melt the solder but not damage the board or components
8. Allow to cool and turn over repeat the above
9. Buy some thermal gel online and replace the gel removed of the chips using a credit card
10. Once cool after 15 to 20 mins replace all the components and PS3 Lid
11. Run a fan test on your ps3 (turn of at the back hold down the eject disk button and turn back on keeping the eject disc button held down until fan starts)
12. Turn you ps3 on and bam your back on COD or FIFA (add wadhapa)
Hope this is of some help but this is only recommended if your PS3 is out of warranty and you are not sending it back for a Second hand Sony one

PS 3 Running hot, forced shutdown...

Your PS3 is overheating. Put it in a different spot that has a more open space. Or get a fan
