Question about Computers & Internet

Having a problem getting a connection with my computer I (foolishly, I now realise!) deleted the software with a view to reinstalling. The first disc worked fine but the second disc will simply not "open" just gives a whirring sound and won'tr open even when I go to "My Computer" to double click. I've looked for downloads for the second disc but can't find any (and Xerox say they have none available nor can they supply a new disc). Any ideas?

    Im geussing your having problems with you drivers which is software you need for hardware to run.

    If you post the specifications or model of you computer we may be able to find some driver downloads for you.

    Thanks pezzah44. I'm sure you are correct re the drivers which is why I decided (unwisely, as it happens) to delete the software and start again when things weren't working properly. As I said before, the software and documentation disc 1 loaded fine but disc 2 won't register at all [from which I can only assume that there is a problem with it]. That's when I looked to see if , as an alternative, I could download the software but I've not found anywhere (including Xerox) that provides that facility. My computer is a Dell, running Windows XP. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Sorry to be thick but I've gone to the site as suggested but couldn't find my way to anything that gave a link to a Xerox driver. I think I'm doing something wrong or misunderstanding !!!Any chance you could give me a step by step guide to take me to the downloads that I need specifically for the Xerox 2400 one touch scanner?

Ok good news that you have a dell because they're pretty easy to find usually, ive done this a few times myself.

itll take you to the DELL DRIVER CENTER
All you need to do is identify your product with the options it gives you and then it will search for all the available drivers for your machine.
And then download them and install them!

    1(sorry this isnt neat) Ok so firstly we need to make absolutely sure theres no drivers there for the xerox already ( i know you said you deleted but its best to make sure)

    2so first we need to bring up system properties by either Press [Windows] [Break] to bring the dialogue box up or right click the My Computer icon on your desktop and click Properties. Alternatively, you can go into the Control Panel and double click the System applet.

    3Select the Advanced tab and click the Environment Variables button.

    4Click the New button below the System Variables panel.

    5In the New System Variable dialog box, type devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices in the Variable Name text box and 1 in the Variable Value text box.

    6Click OK to return to the System Properties dialog box and then click OK again.

    7Select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.

    8In Device Manager, go to View | Show Hidden Devices.

    9and delete and xerox scanner drivers that may be there

    10THEN go to and scroll down to where it says Windows XP / 2000 / Me / 98 and download the english .exe

    11when its finnished run it by double clicking and follow the setup wizard

    12 duribng the wizard it should prompt you to plug in the scanner so have it ready

    hopefully this will work for you.

    I've done all that but when it comes to reloading and I get to "Windows XP / 2000 / Me / 98 and download the english .exe 11" there's a problem in that the only Englsih reference that I am coming to is "2400.3031010.EN.exe (10.3MB)". I haven't tried that as it doesn't accord with your note. Any advice?

    Regards - and thanks again for your help. Computers are wonderful aren't they - except when they go wrong!

    The download worked but when I get to the bit about connecting the scanner the system is telling me that there is a malfunction with the USB device. I've plugged into three different connections on the computer with the same outcome. Having tried a different piece of hardware in the computer USB connection it works OK. So, to my totally untrained mind it looks as if there is a problem with the USB at the scanner end of things. So, it looks like a new scanner is needed. Thanks again for all your help.

    When you deleted software did you get rid of more then just the scanner drivers?

you might have to reinstall the sound card and its drivers
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it

I love my new scanner, but everytime I scan a new photo, the ones on the disc load again into my computer. Is there any way to just load the new photos as I scan as I already have them on my hard drive.

The software that came with this scanner doesn't mark or tag any existing photos as having been read or viewed, and will upload all photos on the storage disk every time you connect it. The software's also not that easy to use when it comes to moving/deleting files. Here's what I do:

- With the scanner connected to your computer, view the device's storage disk in My Computer/Computer in Windows, or Finder in OSX
- Find the old images on the disk; look for a folder labeled DCIM and open it
- From here, you can cut and paste the images to wherever you'd like on your computer, or you can delete them permanently off your scanner

Didnt realise I furst had to format the memory card for my new Nikon D60. Took lots of photos at the weekend but when I took out the card to download the images there was nothing on it. However I can...

in some cases we have found that if there is a virus on the card and if you try to read it directly on a computer having anti virus activated, the computer shows card as a blank. As the camera software is not effected by the window based virus, it can read the data. Try connecting the camera to the computer via USB. As the widows xp or higher versions do not require drivers or the camera software to be loaded to recognise the camera you can directly transfer the data from your card.

Monitor won't display resolution properly after Windows Update

I was having the same problem. Believe it or not I fixed it by unplugging the monitor, and when I restarted my PC I again had the 1440 × 900 option.

Installing problems

Check your pc for compatability to the unit and its software. Check you have no other old printer settings left on pc (causing conflict) check your pc memory is not causing issues, or your operating system is compatable. Sometimes software and pc's can just be pigheaded and stubborn (i realise they are not human but it sure feels like it sometimes)You need to completely uninstall all traces of the printer drivers before reinstalling. Go to computer, local disk, programs, and see if there is an icon or folder for your program. If so, delete it. Do a search too and type in your printer (make sure disc is not in drive) and delete any settings it finds. Now try reinstalling it again.

Reinstalling software

Close down the computer. Reboot the computer go to Control panel Add/delete software - find the Olympus file and click delete. When done do not re install, but put the CD back in the box, Windows does very well without it. If you need an image editor download Picasa it free. If you want an image viewer Download Irfanview- that's free too. Software the comes with camera is always bet left in the box in my view
