I tried to charge my battery on my Motorola Cell/ and it indicated Invalid Battery, and would NOT charge..Unable to see Battery Status ..Why is this happening? My phone is about 7 years old, never any problems before. I think its a T720 Model (flip style phone) Thankyou!

    I would accept that premise whole heartedly, however my phone is only used for emergencies, and even on for a day or so monthly. Recharging on average has only been 1 or 2 times amonth,,which would mean only 1-200 times in its lifetime with me (original purchaser)...Ohhh well, I guess i will have to replace this phone..but dont wish any bells and whistles ( hard to find in today's day and age )..I did read somewhere, there was a problem with Invalid Battery with Motorola Phones..Maybe I was wrong ??

    Thanks...I think I will most likely replace my battery at a Rogers Kiosk..as to charger..I just plug the factory included cable into the phone..but will have it checked out to make sure its properly working..Thanks..I only hope they have a replacement battery..yikes things seem to become obsolete so fast these dayz..Built in obsoleteness..forces consumer to replace ..Yikes!! Thanks again..I will be sure to take my cable with me ..You are the best to get back to me so quickly :-)

Did you use a factory Motorola replacement battery? if not that is very likely the problem, the battery contains a sensor circuit, some after market batteries don't have this and then yoy get the message. The OEM battery is more buy well worth the added expense.

    Sorrey.... there but the battery is still most likely the problem, you were very unclear about the battery, sounded like you had replaced it. Replace the battery and i am sure the problem will be fixed. The very worst thing you can do is let any battery run dead, keep the battery on the charger when not in use. Also test the charger, it should put out about 5 Volts DC. Radio Shack can check the charger for yoy if you don't have a DVOM meter.

Hello ims.... a phone battery is only good for 400-500 charges. If you have had more than that consider yourself fortunate indeed.

With the age of your phone I would not invest in a new battery as they are usually over $20. Instead, I would shop around for a new phone. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

What do I do when I have invalid battery message on my motorola flip phone? I tried a new battery and go the unable to charge message. What can I do?

I would suggest replacing the phone.

You can Google for the user manual to see if it will help. Motorola made several hundred models of the flip phone, good luck.

Battery ? Mark

You should confirm that any battery you purchase has a "Motorola Original" hologram.
If you see a message on your display such as Invalid Battery or Unable to Charge,
take the following steps:
• Remove the battery and inspect it to confirm that it has a "Motorola Original" hologram;
• If there is no hologram, the battery is not a Motorola battery;
• If there is a hologram, replace the battery and try charging it again;
• If the message remains, contact a Motorola authorized service center.

Invalid battery message comes up when I turn the phone on.

I am not familiar with the TracFone V170 but most phones now communicate with the battery. They do this because the battery contains a small computer chip which monitors the charge state, temperature etc.. If this chip is faulty or missing because it is a cheap copy battery, some phones will not work properly. They usually power up okay but will not charge or will charge really slowly. There are various messages they may give including "alien battery", "Invalid Battery" to name a few. If it is unable to communicate with the battery, it will not usually charge as fast as it could because it cannot tell if the battery is overheating so it will always trickle charge an unknown battery.

You will notice a battery like this because it has at least three battery connections. Older ones only had two.
