Question about Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Graphic Calculator

2 Answers

Hi, I am having problems with my TI-84 plus Silver edition. I have new batteries in it, and it won't turn on, I have tried the 2nd key and arrow up and nothing. I do not have cable for it anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions for me.

Remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for ten seconds. Replace the batteries. Does the calculator now turn on? You may have to adjust the screen contrast again.

Hmmmmmh...

The first question that I would want to ask you is how this came about. Of course, this is the internet and such drawn-out solutions wouldn't be tolerated. So, since it seems as if the on key is off (yeah, lame pun intended) what I would suggest is to do some open heart surgery on that ******.

What you'd be looking for is a slip up with the soft key. A lot of these types of devices (controllers, gaming consoles, calculators, remotes, cell phones) have soft keys that activate the chain of events that communicate with the cpu chip, which will in turn display what you want. This may sound technical, but if you opened that ****** up you'd know exactly what I mean.

1. Grab a skinny screwdriver
2. Remove all screws
3. Carefully take off the face plate
4. Examine
4a. Look to see if the soft key is out of place
4b. Dust that baby off (you can get fancy with some compressed air, or you can just blow on it like you've got some heart).
4c. Check if the soft key is cut (not a big deal, you'll come up with something)

Okay...that's all I have for you. I've never had a calculator die off on me. My TI-83 is like 12 years old. Other calculators have some good mileage behind them too. Good luck....if push comes to shove you can mail that bad boy over to me; because I doubt it's feasible to pay for calculator repairs.

You probably did exactly this but press on once, and do the 2nd up arrow and hold up for ten seconds or so. If nothing happens, check the small circular battery also located above the AAA batteries.

SOURCE: I have a TI 84 plus silver edition. Won't turn

The problem may be due a screen that is too light to see anything on it. Adjust the screen darkness.

  1. Press [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press and HOLD the [UpArrow] to draken screen.
  3. Release the [UpArrow] when screen is dark enough.
You can also connect it to the computer to see if TI Connect finds it. If it does, update the OS to version 2.53MP.

You change the backup battery if the calculator tells you RAM CLEARED each time you turn it ON.

Repair ti 84 plus silver edition

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does it?

There is no such thing as a TI89 Plus Silver Edition.

If you mean the TI-89 or TI-89 Titanium, press diamond / (the diamond key below the 2ND key, then the divide key).

If you mean the TI-83 Plus Silver Edition or the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, press MATH left-arrow 4 .
