Question about Acer AL2671W 26 in. LCD Television

2 Answers

I have an Acer AL2671W LCD tv. I have to turn it off and on with the switch on the back several times in order for the tv to respond to the remote or the buttons on the tv itself. It started of with having to do this occasionally, but now I have to do it all the time.

How come when I get it to respond to the remote it works fine until I turn it off again and restart it later?

Hello,

Electrolyte capacitors on the powerboard are going bad and need to be replaced and the tv will work good as new.

Here is a picture that helps you spot the bad capacitors, they can bulge, leak or blow. in your case since it still starts up they are most likyl bulged like on this picture or possibly leaking under.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/daemae/5047703276/

these need to be replaced with same UF rating and Voltage capacitors, they cost around 0.5$ or similar depending on how many you have to replace it may end up costing around 5$

note that you need a soldering iron and the old capacitors need to be unsoldered and then new ones put in place, you need to make sure they are put in the same way, make sure you match the negative to the negative or minus to minus.

the minus side will be marked with black in most cases.

note that the capacitors may hold charge even when unplugged, use a multimeter to check that they don't have any charge before replacing to avoid small electric shocks. The bigger capacitor if not discharged may hold up to 400Volts and could be deadly.

Its the capacitors, I've had many LCD displays and its always the capacitors.

They are worn out but still work, this is indeed your problem since you get it to turn on after trying a few times, it takes longer for them to hold charge, turning on and off on and off it eventually starts to work - Bad capacitors - seen this many times.

Hi Oliver,

This is an indication of out-of-regulation in the power supply section. This was caused by leaky/dried electrolytic capacitor in that section. It will drop the supply from normal voltage and will disable the unit.It needs a little warm-up to make itself stable but the symptom will get worst. Sometimes it has a bulged/dome at the top but not all, it is better that you have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition. Your unit will back to normal again if the leaky capacitor is isolated.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution of handling it, there some stored electricity enough to hurt you with a little mistake only.

Also check if your unit is under warranty /extended warranty, avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free. Don't open the back panel, this will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

This is how the faulty electrolytic capacitor in that section affect the performance of the power supply. Like what I have said it needs a little warm-up to make itself stable. Warm-up depends on how long the tv turned off. The longer the tv turned off the longer it warm-up but it will get worst as time goes by. Once you isolate the faulty capacitor your unit will back to its normal operation.

Acer AT3201W LCD TV

I repaired my Acer by replacing the power supply from
http://www.power-on.com/lcd323-4m.html - $85

Acer would not sell me a replacement power supply.

Note: I needed to solder wires the new power supply to the old one,
the pinouts on the connectors on the new one would not fit the original.

Won't turn on

I have been told by the Acer Support to try two things.

1) Press the left most and right most buttons just left of the Power button continuously for 15 seconds, this is equilvalent to "rebooting" the TV.
2) Unplug all connections to the TV and leave only the power plug attached to the TV, press the Power button continously for upto 30 seconds. This will discharge any electric in the TV.

-------
3) (Actually my discovery, not Acer Support) - Turn the TV on and off a zillion times at the back of the TV in combination with the ON/OFF button from the remote and it will ultimately turn itself back on again.

If the remote is not working at all, I would simply suggest buying a universal remote. It will be far less hassle in the longrun and is designed to be programmed for several devices. Acer seems to be a decently reliable brand, but they still make cheap products...

Hi, need help on remote.

Easiest way to go about this is to go to your local store and look on the back of the universal remote packages. The manufactuer will list all of the brands that their remote is designed to work with. Find Acer, and your problem is solved. Another option is to call Acer and see if you can order a new remote. The customer service number should be on their website.
