Question about Garden

1 Answer

Hi there, I have a Briggs and Stratton self propelling lawnmower with 4.5hp engine. It is about two seasons old and has only received moderate usage. Like my previous one, it is starting to stutter during normal usage and the power output goes up and down as a result. Is there a common fix or something I should swap out to get the engine working smoothly again ? Cheers, P

A common cause of this is improper air / fuel ratio. Find the air / fuel ratio adjusting screw on the carburetor (it's a screw inside a spring) and turn it slowly back and forth until the engine runs smoothly.

How do I replace the starter spring/coil on my self propelled scottts lawnmower

There are some wonderful videos that guys have produced up on Youtube. Here's a good example of one. The guy is doing an old Honda engine, but they're pretty much all the same. Once you've done one, you get the idea and can do pretty much any of them. Good luck to you; I hope this helps:

Where is the oil drain plug

The drain plug on a Briggs and Stratton engine is underneath the deck. Most likely it is concealed by cover for the self propel belt and possibly the blade as well.
The suggested method for draining the oil is to warm up the engine by running the unit for 10 minutes or more, though this should be sufficient time for the engine to have warmed up. Then drain the oil.
An alternate method is to drain the oil out of the oil filler tube. To do this, after the engine is warmed up, tilt the mower onto the side that has the oil filler tube. Put the drain pan under the filler tube, then remove the filler cap. The oil will drain out into the oil drain pan.
CAUTION: The oil that will come out of the engine will be HOT! So be careful when removing the oil filler cap.
I hope this will answer your question. Best of luck in this mowing season.

Need pamphlet for Briggs,Stratton Eastern Lawnmower 2007 Took lawnmower apart, cannot find book on how to put it back together.

You must have model numbers to get any real help. If you mean you took the motor apart, you could go to www.briggsandstratton.com/ and download a manual.

Find your model number on your motor and enter on web site.
