Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

My Hewlett Packard laser printer 5100 DTN won't turn on or power up when I flick the power button into the on position. I have checked the fuse and power cable all look in order, any suggestions for a possible reboot or other potential remedy?

The first thing to try is to see if the power module has gone into a resonant state.
Disconnect the power cord from the WALL or POWER BAR.
wait at least 1 minute, and plug the unit back in.
There's about a 75% chance that this is all the problem was.

Is you can't see any micro-fuses on the low voltage power supply board that are measuring open, then it's either time to replace the printer, or the low voltage power supply board.
Honestly, both cost the same when you consider that the new printer comes with a toner.

But the new printer is a guaranteed fix...and it comes with a warranty! LOL!
But while you have it open, look for bulging or leaking electrolytic capacitors on the low voltage power supply board (the one the main power goes into). You may just need a couple capacitors replaced!

  • I take it you are refilling the toner cartridge...
  • Switch the printer off.
  • Press and hold the green button on your printer and turn the printer on. You will see that the lights flash for a moment and then turn off. After a few seconds, the attention light will turn on followed by ready light and the green light. Keep pressing the green button. In a few seconds, the attention light and the ready light will turn off.
  • Push the toner rotate button while you continue pressing the green button. As you briefly push the toner button, you will see the light flashing. Release both the toner button and the green button.
  • Repeatedly push the red button (cancel button). Now all the working lights on the printer will turn off.
  • Open and close the lid of HP printer once. The light will start blinking.
  • Press the green button. Your HP toner cartridge chip will be reset.
