Question about Marantz Electronics - Others

1 Answer

Hey, I purchased Marantz set: audio SR4400 and dvd DV4400, but I have no idea how to connect the two together. I want to listen to music and watch films on dvd with the sound coming from the speakers, but despite my best intentions and combinations of cables there's no sound whatsoever. There are so many plug ins that I just got lost, moreover, the manual seems not to match the set . . . I feel like a stereotypical blonde ;) Does anyone know how to do it?

Did you even get the SR4400 and speakers to the point that it runs by itself (test tones, FM)?

Master that part, then attach peripherals.

Some basics to keep in mind:

INs connect to OUTs.

Compatible connectors fit without modification.

Never test with MAXIMUM volume. If you can't hear something at medium volume it ain't there.

Regarding the DV4400: I'd advise you to run it's Component Video directly to your TV and its coaxial digital audio to the receiver so each medium is handled by the intended specialized electronics first. Run the DVD analog audio to the TV for watching news using TV speakers and without the receiver turned on.

>>>> * A word on coaxial vs spdif (optical) audio cabling - I always use coaxial if I have the choice because it is A) cheap RCA cable available anywhere in any reasonable length you want to run; B) can be extended and SHARED with other components if you have limited jacks available. You just have to be careful to make sure only one digital source at a time is turned on while using the other; C) RCA cable is impervious to problems arising from tight bends; optical is physically delicate and won

I have a Sony tv that I have my new firestick attached to currently. But my xfinity x-1 box is plugged into my marantz system where my speakers are connected and controlled.

You should have an optical audio output jack on your tv that you can connect to your receiver to output audio through your speaker system.

My PC wont play album I requested.

You only need compatible dvd player software to listen to movie dvd disks. For playing standard audio cd disks, nothing is needed since this support comes built in-to the OS, (Windows XP or higher)

I have a marantz 2238b receiver and a magnasonic dvd 824-2. . where do I connect the cable to watch movies?

To play audio from your DVD player through the 2238b, you will need to hook the RCA left an right outputs from the DVD to the Aux IN on the back of the 2238b. Then you will need to power on the 2238b and place the selector switch to the Aux position. Lastly, adjust the volume to a level you are comfortable with and that should be it.

Thanks

Hi, I have recently purchased an SR7005 which is connected to an HD PVR via Audioquest Cinammon HDMI cable. While watching programs, I lose audio immediately after an advertisement break. If I pause...

If you are watching adverts that implies a broadcast TV sound signal. What happens is that the broadcaster will switch off sound especially Dolby signals during add breaks. Therefore it could be your TV that stops sending the sound to the Marantz. So check the sound settings of you TV. It might have an auto feature that detects the signals, that could be switched to manual or just a wrong sound signal that causes the problem.

What would work better for Marantz SR 4200 Apple Composite or component cable? In order to play music through the amp as well as watching videos

Component Video is a big step up the food chain in quality. Component Video inputs are for video only, not for audio. I don't see Component Video inputs on the Marantz SR-4200; only Composite and S-Video. S-video would be a step up from Composite and it carries analog stereo sound.

You don't give any clues as to the source's audio capabilities.

Digital Audio of either flavor is preferable. Grab the best possible TV-related audio from your Cable/Satellite box to the Marantz and run a pair of RCA audio cables to your TV just in case you want to watch the weather channel without hi-fi sound.

Marantz SR4003

Hip shot: No one let's you record digital audio onto analog equipment (yet).

On looking at Page 26 of the manual, that is verified. (See the Notes). Use only the analog audio and it will probably work for you. The A/D switch decides which you will use.

Marantz SR-7200 Goes to pure static and volume spikes

If the noise is not present in Direct or Pure Direct mode it is definitely associated with digital circuits.
I assume, the unit is not under warranty. Open it and inspect connections to and from digital board. If this does not help it might be faulty connection on the board and it is better leaveing this to a specialist. I hope you did not fiddle with the service menu?!
