Question about Canon PIXMA MX310 All-In-One Printer

2 Answers

When scanning only one or two documents on my Canon MX310 the file ends up way too large! It makes it difficult to email. it may say that the document is 5.9 MB, yet in the past this was never a problem. It only started doing this since I got my new imac.

Oh, I have already tried that, it ends up on my desk top as a pdf file. it's when I add it as an attachment to mail, that it just appears larger than it should for only a couple of documents.

Thanks for your response, and I was able to fix the pdf file problem myself. I took my Canon software program and deleted the whole file. Then I just reinstalled the Canon software CD Rom, and we are all good to go! Problem solved. The reason this happened was because the Canon software file somehow got corrupted when completing the migration process to my new computer. Thanks for your help, it made me do my own homework!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If you lower the scan resolution, it will also lower the file size.

  1. Launch MP Navigator EX.
    1. To open the Applications folder, click the icon of the hard disk where MP Navigator EX is installed.
    2. Double-click the 'MP Navigator EX' icon.

  2. Click 'Photos/Documents (Platen)' on the Scan/Import tab.

when scanning only one or two documents on my - mp210_mpnavmacosx-main.jpg

*Display varies according to the printer model.

  3. Click 'Specify'.

*Display varies according to the printer model.

  4. Select the preferred resolution in Scanning Resolution, and click 'OK'.

*Display varies according to the printer model.

  5. Click 'Scan' to start scanning.

Thanks for getting back to me. This is a process and usually there are several resolutions for one problem. I am glad to hear you got it up and running and that you had a disc you could still use to reload your software! Happy printing!

Yes, it would be the same if you use photo quality when scanning but if you use black and white quality. It will reduce the size of the file into 1/3.

Try also Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and go to document tab and choose scan file to pdf and choose black and white only. Not Photo qualit.

How do i make my PDF scan document small enough to email

This is a problem with most of these Fax Scanner Printers. You will always end up with a large file, like 10 mb for a simple file. I think no matter what you do with the scan, it is large.
Turn the color off and make it gray scale or black and white.
The best way that I have found it to work the best is a work around. Find a free fax service or one that is a few dollars a month. Hopefully you have a fax component on this and you can fax documents to the online service, it will turn that fax into a very nice PDF. You then configure the online fax service to email the to you. Now you can save for your records, rename it and email it to whomever you need.

How to scan a document using Canon MX310 to Microsoft Word

you can try it by using the scanner option on the control panel. If you are using windows operating system, go on start menu, select control panel and double click scanners & cameras. Double click the scanner online and start scanning the documents. Save it in the format you want but it is usually default as jpeg.

scanned documents usually saved as .pdf file if you run the scan option directly on the printer. By pressing the SCAN button the printer. So do not use this option if you do not want the documents to be saved as pdf files.
