If these dull areas are soft ball in size and look kind of like fuzz balls, then more then likely the optical engine (light engine) is defective. This part is a bit pricey, $600.00 to $1,200.00. Since your TV is only 4 years old you should go to the manufacture and to get them to pay for this repair. A DLP TV "light engine" should last longer then that.
