Question about Cell Phones

Env3: Internal screen stays black when opened, and external screen keeps working -- as if the phone doesn't know that it has been opened. My main concern is erasing text messages from front so that more can be received. The internal buttons DO NOT work, so that is not a solution. Is there anything else to try? Thanks very much.

Removing the battery does NOT erase the messages. I am unable to get a replacement phone at this point (past my warranty). I am willing to completely reset the phone, losing contacts, etc., in order to erase messages.

The internal keypad DOES NOT WORK (I've been told that the problem may be the "flex" -- the phone does not recognize that it is open). Again, I only have the external keys and screen. Thanks.

Well, I'd love to have it working correctly, but if I could erase text messages from the FRONT screen and keypad only, it would be usable. This is my daughter's phone . . . and we need to wait until she qualifies for a new one. The fact that she can CALL from the phone doesn't matter to her -- she wants to TEXT from the phone. I read about replacing the flex cable, and then spent about 45 minutes just trying to get all five screws out of the back to even see what they were talking about. Probably beyond my patience and ability (although I'd still like to check it out to see if it's just loose). Again, any way to reset phone and/or erase text inbox from only the front keypad? Thank you.

(I sent two comments regarding this, but now do not see them in the thread.) No, I am UNABLE to use either method because my phone does not recognize when it is open -- therefore, the inside keypad DOES NOT WORK. Any solution utilizing the internal keypad is useless for me.

Hello,

there is nothing wrong with your screen, the problem is from the flex that connects your screen to the phone's main board. This flex must have worn out that's why your screen is not displaying any picture.

The problem is common with flip and slide phones. The flex gets worn out as a result of constant opening and close of the flip or slide phone.

I would urge you to replace the flex and I am assuring you that your screen will display picture again. You might also be lucky to find out that the flex is not well fix, that is, it may have loosed contact.

If you cannot change the flex yourself, maybe you should take the phone to a local repairer within your vicinity, so that the flex can be fixed/replaced.

Read the tips on this link for more info about phone screen problems; http://www.fixya.com/support/r6382458-screen_problems_phones

Good luck.

If your only concern with this phone is to erase messages - then take a hammer and break the phone.

remove the sim card if any exist in it.

in order to restore factory defaults the keypad / keys need to work.

1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key. 2. Touch Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset. 3. Read the warning and touch Reset phone.

or

LG enV3 Factory Default Settings steps :

1. Open the flip and press [ok]
[MENU].
2. Press [ 9 ]Settings & Tools.
3.Press [ 6 ] Phone Settings.
4.Press [ 7 ] Security.
5.Enter the four-digit lock code.
6.Press [ 6 ] Restore Phone.
7.Press [ ok ] after reading the
warning message.
8.Enter the four-digit lock code.

possibly there is a flex cable or a cable that is cut, you would have to take apart the phone and inspect the flat flex cables and order a replacement part if needed, if you want to repair it that is. But it sounded like you just want to get rid of messages.

I've already sent you two methods of reset have you tried either?

    Sorry can't help you.

Hi jrjmyers you can take thr battery out of the phone. Here is the tip as long as your erasing the messages you will not clog up your phone's memory. You can go to a corp verizon store and have them send you a replacement phone. you can call 611 from your phone and have them send you a replace phone. There is a proplem with the screen shorting out on your phone.

hi jrjmyers you can go the the messages on thr front screen of the phone. Where are you located. Id your in new york. Take the phone to a corp verizon store explain to them that you want them to erase the all the information on the phone. Now id yout not in new york , You can call lg customer service and tell them you need a repair center because your inside screen is not working. YOU can access the messages from the front screen by going to the short cut screen. Have you try to ise the voice activation for messages. The soft keys should help when erasing your messages. Id you go on lg site it actuall has a link for their customer service support. Hope this helps a little bit more than last time.

My inside screen on my enV3 stopped working It works on start up and shoes the whole verizon deal then it's like somebody switches it off and it just won't work when I open the phone up the outside...

Trevor, your enV3 phone has an "lid" problem as applicable to your verizon phone. The best and easiest solution to your phone issue is for you to take it to a verizon office for them to update and fix it the internal screen problem for you.
Thanks.

Is it my imagination or is it true my new env3 does not support t9 or preemptive text?

From the front screen and keyboard:
(i.e. with the phone closed)
While entering a message, hit the main "OK" button for "Options".
Item #2 in this menu is "Entry Mode."
T9 is on this list.

Operating from the internal LCD screen and QWERTY keyboard:
Hit OK to get to main menu
Select "Messages"
Once in that menu, the left option key beneath the main LCD screen is "Settings" - hit that
On that menu, item #2 is "Entry Mode" where you can select T9

I have read of difficulties getting the enV3 T9 mode to add new "user" words that you might want to program into the T9 dictionary, so don't be surprised if you have trouble with that.
