This is quite possible, you wanna check to make sure though. If you can get into windows click on the start button go to Computer, I should bring up a window with your drives. Right click on your C: drive and go to properties, should be the last option. Once the new window is up navigate to the tools tab and go to the section that says Error checking, or disk checking. open up that option and check all of the boxes they give you. It should at this point ask you to restart, please do so. After restart I will run a full Chkdisk, will probly take and hour or so. This will give you an better Idea of what your looking at. If it comes back with a lot of erros then you probly have some issue with your hardrive.

Good Luck

Sony VGN-FW351J won't start or install windows.

You may have either a faulty memory module or a faulty hard drive. Remove one memory module see if the problem goes away. If not, remove that module and reinstall the other memory module and try again. It's unlikely that you would have 2 bad memory modules, but if one module is bad i recommend replacing both modules.
If the problem remains regardless of which memory module is installed then your hard drive may be wearing out. The suggestion here would be to replace the hard drive with an SSD which will add some real speed to your computer.

My comp crashed recently, i've changed the hard drive and now can't load an OS onto it. we've tried 3 different versions of xp and vista and four different discs, any suggestions?

A memory dump or the blue screen on start-up with the memory address as you mentioned is telling you that there is a problem with hardware - it could be you new hard drive - try making 2 partitions on it and remember to do a full format and not a quick format, I would also be looking at your ram and making sure it is ok. I have come across many times where a computer has been working ok with the old ram but after formatting and reinstalling it would crash at about 36%.

I want to restore to factory state but boot cd won't work

I think your hard drive which is a SATA drive, needs to be formatted specially for Vista.
you need to find out the make and model of your hard drive, and then you can download a hard drive formatting utility program from the hard drive manufacturers website.
The hard drive is accessed from under the keyboard on this model.

Slow start computor

I think Vista might be a bit too beefy an operating system for your PC. If you dont have 1gb RAM minimum its just not going to be fast. You would be better off going back to XP.

Hard Drive Problem

Greetings...

You have 3 paths to look at and you also need to think about the need to change out Vista for XP...

Vista has gotten a bad rap on being something that does not work... it works fine... unless you have some very old program that you have to have for your job, Vista will work just fine...

Now... 1. you can install a boot manager and have both Vista and XP on your computer... 2. you can reformate you HD and install XP, you have an XP disk and code??? 3. you can run Virtual PC on Vista and install XP, still need the disk and code...
Virtual PC will allow you to fire up XP and run it as a separate program on top of Vista... and it's a free download...

Still I would look at just why you need to change... I have been running Vista since before it came out and other than a couple of programs in the beginning were a problem, everything works just great...

Have a great day...
