Question about Belkin Pre-N (F5D8230-4) (DBF5D82304) Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

I have a Belkin wireless G router- 2.4Ghz-802.11g I have had for years. A few days ago it stopped connecting to the internet. I can connect my modem directly to my laptop and get on the internet so it's not the modem. When I connect the cable from the modem to the router and check wireless connection on the laptop, it says the wireless is on and its connection is excellent. But it also says there is no internet connection. I see from surfing Google this is a common problem. Please help. David M

Start by checking for "link" between the modem and wireless router. This is usually a tiny light built into the network port itself on each piece of network equipment. It should be solidly on if the link is good. If it isn't on, check that you have the network cables plugged in good and that the cables or connectors are not broken or damaged. If you have another network cable, try it instead of the one you were using.

If these steps don't help, you can try fully resetting your wireless router to factory defaults, then reconfiguring it again. Consult the manual for your brand and model of wireless router for this. It may also have additional troubleshooting steps.

There is a chance your wireless router has simply gone bad. I've seen new Belkin wireless routers for as little as $29, so you may want to go that route, rather than spending too much time trying to troubleshoot the one you have.

SOURCE: how to set up network on belkin G+ wireless usb adapter

do you have a Wireless Router + Broadband modem?

This is like a base station to which your remote wireless node communicates (to get connected to your home network and internet.

something like this http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=187337 for an ADSL connection.

If you are on cable, you can either get a Router similar to the one above (but for cable) http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1138056788757&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8875739789B01

or if your Cable modem has LAN ports you may just be able to use an "Access Point" to add Wireless capabilities. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1126536803676&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=0367639789B22

SOURCE: Belkin wireless G router conection problem

If you are connecting the laptop directly to the router with a cable, that is good in this case because wireless connections are harder to troubleshoot. If the connection is fine when you connect directly through the modem, it pretty much has to be either your network connection settings on your laptop or (more likely) some settings on the router. I'd check the Belkin web site for the latest firmware and upgrade the router using the web access/update routine (often through 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1), and then do a full router restart to the default settings and try that. This usually works.

If all that fails, I bet you have some settings on the router that are causing network trouble. Try going through the router settings and turning off (or on) each of the many confusing variables until you hit on the one that is causing the trouble.

PS: If the router is also acting as the modem, then the router will have a whole galaxy of settings for running the modem, and I bet it is them that are the culprit - I have been assuming above that you are using the same modem, but plugging it into the router.

Good luck...

SOURCE: losing internet connection when I try to connect laptop to wireless router

Your cloning the mac address - thats the problem. It should use it's own mac address to connect to the modem. You need to power down the modem, then repower after a minute or so to let it connect to the new mac address. The problem you are seeing is due to network collisions betweenj the desktop and the router with the modem.

SOURCE: Wirless Network keeps failing

Hi,

It is possible that you need to further fine tune your WEP configuration. To verify if it's the security lock, try running the laptop and the router without the WEP security (disabled) and determine if you still get the "Limited connection or no connectivity".

If yes, you have just eliminated that area and could consider other possibilities, otherwise you then have to concentrate on the WEP security.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back on any developments (or lack thereof) or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

If no signal, check router config. Use your
internet browser to look at router's settings.
By default the password on most Belkin routers is left blank, and the default IP address is 192.168.2.1 Check all you router's wireless settings in case disabled or incorrect. Make sure the laptop's wifi button has been toggled to OFF. Routers do die - esp the lowend ones. New wireless G router = $20 on sale.

No wireless connection with my laptop

hi thanks for using fixya!

First of all, make sure that you have your internet connection from your provider.

Try to restart your pc or laptop, disconnect the cable from your router and pc, then install them back again, try to do a reset. Make sure that your router is turned on and working properly. Did you change any setting beforehand?

If you need further assistance, let me know!

Please rate me! thanks!

Try to reduce the MTU of the router. If you're on DSL, set the MTU size to 1492, for Cable connection size is 1400 or 1463. You can do it on the router's admin page http://192.168.1.1

check you cable connections, try to check if you can go online wired to the router if you are connecting wirelessly. You can also bypass the router and connect directly to the modem to make sure its working.
