Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

AT STARTUP,ONE CHANNAL BREAKS UP.IT SOUNDS LIKE WHAT YOU WOULD HEAR ON A RADIO RECEIVER. THIS PROBLEM IS ON ALL INPUTS,IN SPEAKERS AND ON HEADPHONES. IF YOU INCREASE THE VOLUME THE PROBLEM WILL IMPROVE. IF YOU GREATLY INCREASE THE VOLUME THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY. AT FIRST IT WAS ONLY WITH THE SPEAKERS. I TRIED OTHER SPEAKERS , BUT THEY MESSED UP ALSO. THEN THE HEADPHONES WOULD MESS UP. I HAVE AN ELECTRONICS BACKGROUND. I HAVE WORKED ON TV'S,VCR'S ,AND AMPS IN THE PAST.THIS SOUNDS LIKE DIRTY CONTACT POINTS ON A RELAY. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

It sounds more to me like one transistor in an AB output pair has slowly failed.
If you have an oscilloscope, look to see if the top or bottom of the waveform is squared off.
If not, just test the output transistors.

Without knowing more about the make/model of the unit that's the best advice I can give you at the moment.

scope the actual audio outputs (speaker outs) and you'll see if the top or bottom of the waveform is chopped off on one channel. You can then meter that output back to it's transistor pair, then just use a meter to see which one is bad (use the good ones for the comparative readings)
If it's a hybrid IC, then you'll likely just have to replace the IC.

How do I connect speakers through the headphone socket

The best way to do that would be to put a receiver in the mix, The older the receiver the better, then just stop by your local radio shack and pick up a mini to dual RCA adapter, connect the RCA ends to your inputs on your reliever and wallah, not only do you have sound but pure driver powered stereo that sounds great. Of course the receiver will connect the speakers to the system.

Can't hear my speakers, but i can hear through my headphones

check the speaker connections, if you have a receiver that has front and rear,, switch the speakers to rear to make sure the speakers themselves are working correctly, by allowing the headphones to produce sound its letting you know the outputs for the receiver itself are good , also,, be sure that the speaker selection switch is ON and that its set for the correct speaker selection. (re front or rear or both) and that Mute isn't on

I cant get any sound I did the trouble shooting

Changing the Audio Output
To switch audio output from the internal TV speakers to a connected external sound system or headphones:
Press 1. MORE.
Press 2. 9 (AUDIO).
Press 3. until the Speakers option is displayed. The Speakers option will display only if an A/V receiver connection has been detected.
Press 4. to switch between TV and either AV Receiver or Headphones.

Check if the MUTE key is on.
• The TV's "Listen to:" setting may be set to SAP (analog program from the ANT input) but no SAP is being broadcast.
• Check that the Speakers option is set to TV to hear sound from the TV speakers. Possibly sound is being sent to one of the audio outputs for an A/V receiver or headphones.
• If using an A/V receiver, check that the Speakers option is set to AV Receiver to hear sound from the A/V receiver speakers.
Press and hold the POWER button on the control panel for 10 seconds to perform System Reset.

We purchased the midland two way radio, the problem is the channel we are on we only can hear every one in our group, but can not communicate if they are on their radio. How can we get on the same...

You should ask the others what channals they are on if you cant for whatever reason then scan for a frequincy that has others on it by hitting the scan butten and hitting the channal up or channal down butten, if you can tthen talk on each channal in order and wait 10 seconds for a reply then go to another channal and try agean, im not sure if you can hear others unless they have the same brand radio's but i could be wrong, i am also not sure if the scan butten will work so after it goes through all of the channals 2 times then try the other suggestion. you also want to make sure you have good batteries in when you try.

Hope this helps

We have had this system for more than 6months. We turned it on the other day to discover no sound output. Nothing through blueray, iPod, cd or even TV. We have 2 x hdmi cables and 1 x optical cable. Any...

It can be either problem with the receiver itself, cables or your speakers. You can try different combinations to narrow down the issue.
1) Also the radio does not work?

2) Try to run the Test tone to the speakers (Setup / Speaker setup / Manual setup / Test tone). If you hear the tone, then the issue is configuration problem with your inputs.

3) If possible, try to connect headphones to the receiver. If that works, it can be issue with cables/speakers or their setup.

4) Try to run the Automatic Speaker setup with YPAO microphone. It will eventually fail, but will provide you error code, which you can lookup in the manual for different reasons.

5) Try disconnecting all the cables and reconnecting them again, possible trying left speaker with right cable and right speaker with left cable.

My speakers wont work suddenly unless I am using my headphones

Make sure in the volume mixer that it is using the right sound device. You most likely have it set to the wrong device output. When you plugged in the headphones in kinda automatically switches, but to use the speakers again you have to do it manually. Just hook up a cheap av receiver to your computer and use this headphone input instead. a 100$ 5.1 av receiver beats any pc speaker system.

Try getting into the configuration menu of the MP3 player and adjust the output controls for external devices....it sounds to me like it might be too high and/or the wrong output decoding.

Sony Receiver STR-DE305

It's very likely it is a fuse - does it work with any other speakers or headphones? Is there any reset on the back of the receiver? If not, unplug it, remove the cover and check the fuse(s).

Rate if this helps :)
