Will the water heater electronics withstand the high temperatures in the summer months? It gets up above 150 up there in the summer. Our local code is 2009 ICC uniform building code, but I am having trouble finding the text of it on the Internet.

SOURCE: Paloma PTG 74PVN Tankless Water Heater

did you check the filters on the the water valves, i am not exactly sure about your codes that are shoeing but if you could read it and post them, i know on some of the units 76 means there is low water pressure and the filters are behind 2 caps one on each side above the shut off valve take off the caps and remove the screens, clean them and replace them ,, make sure you turn off the water on both side first or you will get wet

SOURCE: Paloma tankless, gas, water heater, error code C7 76

If you look on the left hand side of the burner control module you'll see 4 capacitors - the capacitors have most likely failed...pretty sure anything code 76 is P/S failure. It may also be covered for manufactures defects. If the cap is blown..the top will be slightly raised as apposed to flat like the other nearby caps - they are called top blow capacitors...the damage should be evident.

SOURCE: In your experience is better to put a Rinnai

Depending on where you live,i would install the rinnai unit on an external wall as close as possible to fixture outlets. This makes the unit more efficent as the longer the distance the water has to travel. you will waste what ever is in the pipe ,plus the first few litre that pass threw the heat exchanger. Also by having unit on outside wall makes it easier for servicing . (as long as where you live does not become covered in snow. or if there is abit distance to travel, may consider having a return line back to tank

Water temperature fluctuates with tankless

Have you ever tried to pump water for a fountain... It is so tough and you need larger and larger pumps to get it to go 7 feet high to let's say 10 feet high. Having the on demand water heater in the attic dramatically drops it's pressure. It's best to feed it with a 1 inch or at least 3/4 inch pipe downstairs before it splits the hot and the cold to get the best pressure everywhere then the least pressure will be when it reaches the 2nd floor. but the heater won't cut out because the pressure it even greater downstairs.

Which type Richmond water heater?
Is this a tankless water heater or tank-type?

Tankless are notorious for 'cold water sandwich' under exact conditions you describe. You might need tankless with larger BTU burner.
Don't install a tankless.

If you have tank-type water heater, then I suspect a clog in the hot water line, or single-handle faucet cartridge in show is going bad.
Same problems can contribute to tankless problems.

Rheem usually asks you to call local service technician.

There are many factors that cause problem you describe: bad PC board, sensor problem, loose wires, crossover in single-handled faucet, lime build-up in heat exchanger, clogged water filter.
The remote control might give you an error code. Error code is a starting point for troubleshoot.
Error code on one unit can have different cause than same error code on different unit.

Read manual for required maintenance.
Tankless require yearly maintenance.

Rheem pronto tankless water heater just barely warm model # 74pvn-1. This is in a house we are just purchasing. Also it looks like it may be attatched to another tank water heater , Help please

Before calling service technician, open following link for Rheem troubleshooting resources.

Sometimes people attach tankless to tank-type heater to preheat incoming cold water.
Additional tanks are also used to store solar heat, and some installations have tank-type because tankless is unreliable. Service technician can sort out the function correctly.

Owner should read tankless manual thoroughly, especially troubleshoot and maintenance sections. Tankless require yearly maintenance.

Since tankless are expensive to repair and replace, you might be able to fire up the tank-type water heater and provide hot water without much cost.
You can also install tank-type gas water heater yourself. Lowes sells 40 gallon for $317.00, and then you offer 10% less.

Water temp. at the tap fluctuates

It is likely the inlet filter is plugged. this reduces the flow and then the heater adjusts the burn rate down to protect itself. the filter screens are small and plug easily. It would be a good idea to install a larger pre filter on these heaters.
