Hello

The issues you are running into are indicative of two possible issues.

First, the memory card may simply be bad. But before you purchase or try another memory card, you need to look for the second possible issue. The second issue, which is typcially more common, is that inside the card slot on the camera, there are pins, it is possible that one or more of these pins has become bent or damaged. If you look inside you can usually see a pin or pins out of alignment or bent over. If that is the case, the camera will need to go in for service.

Canon 30D had bent CF pin - power light remains on: replace cf pin slot or cf pin slot AND motherboard??? Please help!!

As hobby photographer, and retired electronics engineer, I hope I can help you.
first, you virtually never find any fuse in a camera. Sometimes they build in a diode, to prevent damage when someone puts in a battery, the wrong way around, but most of the time you even can't put in a battery the wrong way around. If in your camera a pin from the CF connector caused a shortage in the camera, the connector should be replaced, but sometimes this shortage can cause extra damage, because voltages can come on places that can't handle this. A chip can die. Only to find out, when you replaced the connector and try to switch on the camera again. If you try to find some pictures of the inside of a DSLR, you can see that the "board" actually is a flat cable, with tiny chips connected. It is almost impossible to replace the components on that.
I know Canon certified repair centres, deliver good jobs and have original spare parts. But you always can ask what it will cost in advance and decide if you want to go on.
On the site ifixit dot com you can see how to repair a camera. I'm not sure your camera is opened there too, but you can get an idea how it looks inside.
Although a 30D still makes good pictures, perhaps you should consider to start saving up for a new one?

When switching on my Canon 5D2 the screen comes up with error 20 and nothing works. If I switch off and back on again it works as normal

One solution that has worked for other users is to format the CF card using the computer first, and then format it in the camera. Sometimes this is a problem if the card had been used with previous Canon cameras, such as the original 5D or a 30D.
I hope this helps!

Cf error - camera now dead

None of this sounds good. I would start by checking the condition of the pins in the CF card slot. A small light and a loupe will help. If any of the pins are damaged, bent, or even missing, then the camera may have had a short circuit and blown the internal fuses. Neither the pins or the fuses are user replaceable.

Bent/broken card reader pins. Take a flash light and look inside the card reader. There you'll see two rows of pins, 1or 2 will be bent (common problem).
Needs repair service.

Error 99 on 30D Canon

Had this problem before and i found this guide online

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.
If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.

I have error 99 in my camera canon 400d

Error 99 is a general fatal error.
which includes the problems above mentioned by Q4SteveB but also many others.

It can be caused by a dicky shutter, problems with the CF card interface.

If cleaning and trying a different lens has not worked. Not definitive but as a rule of thumb...
If it letting you take one picture then giving error 99.. and the picture is saved to the card (but may just be black) this is most likely the shutter needs replacing..

If it takes a picture and gives error 99 but there is no picture on the card or the picture is 0KB its a CF interface problem.

If you get an error 99 when you plug in the USB its a USB interface error, you can try a different cable but unfortunately in most cases if another lens or cable wont work it needs repair

Error code 22

ERR 22: CF DRIVER
DESCRIPTION: This error occurs when image data cannot be written to the CF card. This error can occur when the CF card is not fully seated in the camera or if the D30 does not detect a card-ready signal within a specified time limit or when the CF card is not usable because it has been corrupted or physically damaged. It can also occur when the camera's battery level is insufficient to completely write the file to the CF card. REMEDIAL MEASURE: Use the DC Coupler or recharge the battery first. If the error continues to occur with sufficient power available to the camera, check that the CF card is properly inserted. If that's not the problem, then try replacing the CF card. If that does not solve the problem, have the EOS D30 and one of the CF cards that is causing the problem examined by a qualified service technician.

Error 99 Canon 30D

I also had this problem.
Try to remove the battery for more than 1 minute.
Also try to remove the CF-Card for more than 1 minute.
For me this only resolved the problem for 5-10 pictures.
Then I had to remove battery and CF-Card again.
The only real solution for this problem is to give the lens to repair.
Because this problem is caused by a wrong adjustment of the lens aperture.
