Was using my cleaner it went off and now it won't turn back on

Many models have a thermal reset to turn off the vacuum if it gets hot. Better vacuums have a mechanical reset switch that you push to reset. Most vacuums have an automatic thermal cutoff built into the motor, if it gets too hot it shuts off the power and will reset itself when it cools back down. If it shut off due to getting too hot it indicates a clog somewhere or the filters are clogged or the bag is full.

Vacum shuts off

If you have BISSELL vacuum, some of our models have a brush reset. Here are the instructions to turn it back on:

If something becomes lodged in the foot and the

brush shuts off, turn the cleaner off and unplug

from the outlet. Remove the obstruction. The

brush will automatically reset when the cleaner
is plugged in and turned back on.

Additionally, you could have dirty filters that are activating a thermal protector switch that shuts the vacuum off if the motor becomes too hot. If this is the case unplug the vacuum, clean any filters, clogs, or obstructions and wait 30 minutes for the unit to cool. Then plug the unit in and it should work. I hope this helps.

The automatic drain hose is hooked up to the back of the unit, but when the bucket is full, the automatic pump does not work. The automatic pump should come on and empty the bucket, but it does not come...

Any automatic pumps operate off a swith that is turned on when the water rises. They normally have some type of ball lift, that will raise the switch when water is high and then drops with the water and shuts the pumps off. It sounds like yours is stuck and not activating the pump.

Agitator doesnt turn

There is actually a reset button on the agitator, I would try pushing this switch first to see if this fixes it. The button is located on one of the sides of the agitator housing, I'm not sure if it's the left or the right side, or on the top of it.

Look on the sides of the part of the vacuum that is on the floor and see if you can see a small red pole on either side. If you can't find it here, look on the top of the part of the vacuum that touches the floor for a brush overload reset switch.

Try pushing that poll whenever you find it. This switch is a protection mechanism that will shut the brushes down to protect them if something gets vacuum up inside of the brush, it will automatically shut itself off to prevent any damage.

Simply push this overload switch down, and this should hopefully fix your problem.

If this didn't, please let me know and I can walk you through some more advanced troubleshooting.

If this was helpful, please be so kind and rate my repair, or leave feedback.

Thank you!

How do i use my bissell 7920

The 7920 is a great little carpet shampooing vacuum. Look up manual information for detailed assembly and starting/breakdown procedures. Make certain that the carpet/floor has been vacuumed previous to cleaning with the shampooer! The small nozzle opening will get clogged with as little as a toothpick or cheerio! Step on the rear release arm pedal and drop the handle down to the floor, Pull up on the resevoir bucket handle and place the handle of the resevoir back down to open the top of the tank and fill the bladder with hot water. Replace bucket top and place bucket back into vacuum. Raise the handle until it clicks into place. Fill on board soap/shampoo dispenser by lifting out of chamber on unit and fill with appropriate Bissell or upright shanpoo cleaner. Replace unit and make certain the top is tight. Plug unit in and turn on both vaccuum switch and preheat water switch and wait approx. 2 minutes to get water hot enough to proceed with cleaning. Start by rollling cleaner onto carpet and engage trigger approx 2-3' pathway away from you and then release trigger and draw vacuum /shamppoooer back over wetted area, repeat without using water again unless heavier traffic area. Do not over wet area draw unit back and forth a few times until water runs clear thru the front clear window. Proceed to make another path along side cleaned area and so on.
Once you hear the water run out or you have finished cleaning an area then shut of heater and vacuum. release handle with foot pedal release and lift out bucket and pour out dirty water and rinse area/tank /resevoir etc. You should also clean the small red filter in the resevoir of any debris by popping out and replacing. Also, there is an onboard filter under the clear window (where spinner is located) . unscrew clear top , take out spinner device and pull out small plastic screen and rinse or blowout. Clean also the front clear cover if there is debris, by rinsing off with sprayer or wiping clean. You may also find that you have to take off the clear plastic hood window, by unscrewing two screws on either side of nozzle opening (top ) and rinse out as well. Do not, get water under unit into motor area. Place unit upright and in a warm place.. Do not let freeze if in climate that is known to freeze. Good luck cleaning!!

Works intermittenly

The electric motor inside your Dyson has a built in over-current trip to protect itself (and you if it seriously overheated and caught fire). This normally automatically resets itself, however if the motor has just about had it, next time it is switched on it just trips again.

The primary cause of motors overheating is that the filters are not cleaned or replaced frequently enough. Dont be fooled by Dyson's "lifetime filters". They need to be regularly cleaned and replaced when necessary.

Replacement motors are available on eBay for about £25, however replacing one requires good DIY skills and tools.

Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com and see if you feel you can tackle it yourself. If not, take it to a repair shop or call the Dyson helpline.

Vacuum turns itself off or won't turn on

Sounds like a bad on/off switch or a loose connection somewhere in the vacuum. If you can remove the switch, you can see if any connections are loose. The switch itself can be checked if taken out of the circuit and tested with a meter or a continuity light.

Otherwise, you might want to consider a repair shop.

Just powered itself off

It will shut off if your bag is full. If you are cleaning up fine dust, it will give a false bag full indication. Take the bag out and carefully, shake it down to get the dust out of the filter layers inside. This will let more air flow through the sensor.

Mine is the same, and it is the relay welding itself closed. The relay is switched by the low-voltage wiring that connects to the vacuum outlets, and it switches the motor on and off. Mine was welded in the energized position. I have cleaned and filed the contacts on the relay, and that solved the problem for about a week. I suspect the relay contacts were plated, or a worn motor is drawing a little too much current (it is several decades old at this point).
