Question about Acer Computers & Internet

Window error recovery tells me that it could be caused by hardware or software changes of which i have not done. i have the option to start windows normally but it returns to the error above, if i choose the repair option it returns to the error screed too.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa,

Seems like you are having a boot issue on your computer. One of the things that you can try is to boot in safe mode and see if you can clear up startup items. Here's How :

  1. Shut the computer down
  2. Boot to safe mode by tapping on "F8" key as soon as you turn on your computer
  3. Choose "Safe mode only" and wait till it completely boot
  4. Click on start and click "run"
  5. Type "msconfig" and hit "Ok" - a window should pop up.
  6. Find and Click on "startup" tab and uncheck everything
  7. Hit "Apply" and choose to restart the computer
If the above steps cannot be completed or did not resolve the problem, then the Operating system has to be fully reinstalled. You can visit Acer's support site for more information on how to fully reinstall your operating system. I have to warn you that doing this will erase all information/data stored in your hard drive :

hi,
please insert your operating system disc in the drive and restart the computer .
Select the boot device as cd/dvd drive and save the settings in BIOS .
restart the system and boot it using the CD.

also, you can insert the disc restart the system in safe mode.
try to restore the computer using system restore.

Windows has a way to tell if something has been changed. It is ok with changing cd and dvd drives, and other non-essential hardware, but some things cause a real problem. If you change the video card too many times it does not like it. If you put your old hard drive in a new computer it does not like it. If you put a new CPU (brain) in your old computer it does not like it. The message you are getting will not go away with a repair. My suggestion is to put it back like it was before you got the message. If you can't put it back, most likely you will need to reinstall Windows with your current setup. Hopefully you have a backup of your files, along with the installation media and cd-keys.

When i start my laptop it wont start windows, it just goes straight to a windows error recovery screen, it says windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. it...


I recently had the same problem. I also thought it was a windows update that caused this: forced shutdown, startup repair, etc. The last time it did startup repair it could not repair it. Lucky for me my pc still had one month of warranty left. So after leaving it with the "pro's" for a week, I called to say what's up, figured it out yet? The techs told me that they had run every diagnostic test available and all the hardware had passed safely. So I asked what it could be and they said, more than likely, that Windows Vista software had somehow become corrupted- the only repair to fix this? a complete recovery. They offered to do a recovery for me for $130- lose all info except what's on recovery partition.
(No, thanks, I'll do it myself.) Went online, found how to start recovery (Alt + Fn + F11, for my Gateway DX4710), did it myself, works fine now, haven't had a problem since.

On a side note, if your RECOVERY software becomes corrupted, you will need recovery disks to fix this. I got lucky this time, but bought a set of those (JIC) for 20$.

I now do a backup at least once a month so it won't be a TOTAL loss should it ever happen again.

As a worst case scenario, if you need to figure out how to recover your computer, looks like HP owns Compaq. You could start here:

Laptop start up error


This error comes when there is memory issue .
Harddisk issue or RAM issue.
For that if you have windows recovery disk you need to run disk checking program
Most of this error comes becuase of hardddisk error.
Boot your computer with windows xp disk then enter in recovery console mode then type in prompt "chkdsk /r"
then press "y"
then it checks disk andf fix error if found any error on harddisk.
then you can boot your windows.

Windows Error Recovery


Using the Windows installation cd. Boot the system with the CD in the drive. When given the option select the repair option. This should correct the issue. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Blue screen error on windows vista home premium 64 bit


Without the error code, I will address the 'BSOD' in general here. Normally, this will happen when there is a driver fault with one (or more) of your hardware. Have you recently installed software? Older versions of programs that are not Vista approved will also cause this.
Will your computer start in Safe Mode?
You can also do a Repair of Vista using the System Recovery Options. (Choose the "Repair" option when prompted - this will tell you what is actually causing the Blue Screen.
