Your toshiba should have a restore partition from factory from there in windows there should be a program to create physical disks for restore so if your harddrive ever totally crashes you should have these disks after replacing the harddrive. Anyhow, reformatting is usually done as a last resort. Have you emptied your temorary internet files? Go ot Internet options in the control panel > Browsing history > delete files. Also, open my computer > right click on the C:/ drive left click properties > tools clean up harddrive here. Also, does your computer have enough ram. Most computers come with just enough to run the OS and a few programs. Go to 18004memory.com scan your sysyetm and they will give you upgrade options . Is your Anti-virus up to date? scan for viruses they will slow down a computer beyond belief! Is your harddrive full? If so, remove some programs you dont use or need, just go to add/remove progrmas in control panel.

Try to clean up your system with this program:

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Also the registry.
There is no need to install a new version.
You have to buy a new windows if you want to do that.
I think you have virus or malware.

Try a free antivirus program from here: http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free
Uninstall the old one before you install the new one.

If it has malware you can remove it for free with this program:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Try also microsoft update for the new service pack.

Hope this was helpfull.

Hi

It may be worth doing a system restore back to when it was working ok
that way you wont have to spend ages setting it all up again just as you like it

i think you do it this way but please save any pictures or files to a spare drive ist
because you could easlily loose them

start
all programs
maintenance
backup and restore

go down to recover system settings
then click on system restore
then click on choose a different restore point
next
show more restore points
this will hopefully show you several past dates to choose from
click on one of those older one
if you think that your laptop was ok then

and windows will restart and hopefully take it back to the date you choose

its worth having a look in your programs to see if the recovery is built into the hard drive
also look in programs for toshiba recovery disk creator so that you can create a recovery disk

Please remember to save any important pictures or files on a spare hard dive or burn them to a disk
before you do the format as you will loose everything that you have put on your laptop

good luck

Usually toshiba has a recover partition on your hard drive, it might be called "d" drive or something. look in the toshiba file in your programs. If you can't find that, you might try contacting toshiba and asking them for a recovery disk, also one more thing, you can make back up disks of everything on your computer, but that will include all the **** that's making go slow. Your could go to a local computer shop also and get the ovm windows 7 disk. you have the serial number somewhere in your comptuer for th win 7 since it came with the comp. make sure you write it down before you start the install process, you will need it during the install, good luck

Look for a recovery media creator in windows, it's usually under a toshiba folder in the start menu sometimes you have to poke around for it.
You can also do it without the discs because you have a recovery partition on your computer but it is nice to have the discs just in case. When you boot the computer keep hitting the f7 key and this will take you into the recovery manager where you can reinstall windows.

Toshiba Satelite A150-S4184,Hasent been used much,It was verry fast, now have internet again and loads very slow and takes long time to load pages,I think auto downloads instales windows 7,What can I

How much memory do you have in your Toshiba Satelite laptop?
Windows XP with Service Pack 3 needs a minimum of 1GB but ideally would run better with 2GB.

Windows 7 would need the same but there is no auto-update process to go from XP to 7 as this is not allowed - you would have to do a Custom install of Windows 7 which requires a clean install (i.e. format the hard drive and start from scratch).

If you are running XP with less than 1GB memory, then you need to check what the maximum memory that the laptop can be upgraded to?

The easiest method is to use the Crucial Memory web site System Scanner utility which will detect how much memory is installed and advise how much you can upgrade to according to the options available for the specific make & model of laptop.

If the laptop hasn't been turned on or on-line for a long time then you may be using a lot of resources downloading Microsoft critical updates plus updates for other installed programs like iTunes, QuickTime, Java etc.

Try downloading and installing a copy of the free Advanced System Care 5 utility then running the Deep Care tools which include System Optimisation and clean-up utilities to improve system performance.

How do I reset my toshiba satellite l500 to manufacture setting

See the owner`s manual. Turn off the notebook. Wait a minute. Hold down the 0 (zero) key and push once the power button. A screen message will appear after a few seconds. Choose to reboot from HDD. (or you can choose to reboot with recovery disks using the DVD drive.) Follow the instructions. It will take about 2 hours to reinstall windows 7. And another 2 hours for initials and updating. If you have a 64-bit processor, you can choose the 64-bit or 32-bit version of windows 7, if you wish.

Want to bring it back to factory new

The best way to reset your Laptop to Factory Default is to reformat it. Depending on which version of Windows you have this will create a directory in your Hard Drive called Windows.old, or depending on whether or not you deleted the partition, it will erase everything. You'll want to back up your hard drive if you have anything worth saving.

Beyond that, pop in your recovery disk, or if you don't have it, put in your Windows disk, then restart your computer. When your computer is booting up, head into the BIOS and set your computer to boot from your DVD Drive. If you aren't sure how to do this then reformatting is probably not a good idea. Once you've booted from the disk, just follow the instructions to reformat.

How do I replace the keyboard?

next to the F1 key and the windows key (2nd upper key and second to last key) are two screws, usually under some covering. unscrew and lift top edge of the keyboard towards the trackpad to lay face down. Undo the wire ribbon by lifting the grey or brown tabs and remove ribbon and keyboard. Then install the new keyboard by inserting the ribbon on the place. Lock down with the tabs and put the plastic prongs (close to the space bar) into the laptop body first, and then close keyboard onto the final position. screw back in and thats all. nboulikas@gmail.com for any additional questions.

Toshiba Satelite M100 PC notebook wont start up windows XP

This sounds like a memory problem. Download and run memtest 86, it is a small iso file that you create a bootable cd from. Run this for at least one pass.

If the memory passes boot from your xp disk and choose R to get into the repair console. Once there type the following commands

fixboot
fixmbr

then try the install again. Hope this helps
