If you have just purchased this combo, you should contact Nikon support as it may be under warranty.
You can contact Nikon support here:
http://www.nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Product-Support.page

Otherwise, you probably have some sort of dirt or debris in the lens that is causing difficulty in rotation of the barrel.  If this is not the case, then there may be physical damage to the lens that would need to be repaired.  Nikon or a local camera repair shop can help you with this issue as well.  It is not recommended to try and resolve it yourself unless it is just due to dirt/dust.

I dropped my Nikon Action Lookout III binoculars, ...

The same happened to my Mizar 10X25 I tried things like moving the front lenses but then I discovered that most probably the binoculars fell on one of the four corners, this caused the tubes' direction to be twisted. It could be that the left is pointing slightly down or the right is pointing slightly up, which is essentially the same, and which is what happened to mine. You can discover this miss-alignment by watching using both eyes and then close and open one of them the phantom image will appear and disappear. What you have to do is apply a force with your hands twisting the binoculars one tube up and the other down and hold where you can see clear, I just discovered this and it works, I think I should be able to re-align them again, but I haven't faund how to do so. If you find a different solution please let me know here: gregsoli@yahoo.com

My Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W55 camera does not turn on properly. When I press the gallery button, everything runs smoothly. When I press the on button, the lens opens and closes several times, making a little...

Hi. I had exactly the same problem with my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W7. The problem started after while lense was fully open, the battery became 100% empty. I did not have access to new batteries and did not have my charger with me so I put the camera on my car seat and went home. After charging the batteries, I turned the camera Off and the lense retracted 100%. Later on I tried to transfer some pictures to my PC. After connecting the camera to my PC with the dial in the P position and lense fully open I turned the dial to play in order to transfer photos. After transferring the pictures, I turned the camera off and disconnected from the computer.

I turn the camera on to take new pictures next day, The lense would go up, and and turn with lense fully open. It would never close. The screen was black with a message "Turn the camera on and off again". I tried 30 times or more and the same thing would happen again.

Here is what I did to fix my camera and it has been working normally since then.

1- I cleaned around the outside of the lense with lent free cloth

2- I used dust OFF to get raid of the remaining small dust particles from around the lense.

3- While turning the camera off, I pushed (down, up and turn) the lense in (NOT TOO Hard) by my hand. If you push the lense too hard, you may damage the mechanicall moving parts of the lense.

4- After a few tries, the lense retracted 90% +. I then pushed the lense a little harder all the way in, the way it normall retracts. The lense cover also closed 100%.

5- I turned the Camera on and off a few times. It was opening and closing exactly the way it used to. My Cybershot has been working okay since then.

I read a lot and here is what cause my lense to malfunction.

While lense was fully open and battery died, some small particles got on the lense and prevented lense from fully opening or closing.

In summery: two things could have caused your camera lense to malfunction.

1- if you had dropped your camera hard, some mechanical parts may have got damaged or dislocated. In this case you have to open the lense and replace the damaged part, clean and put it back on the camera. This is too risky for most ordinary people. You would most likely make it WORST.

2- If you did not drop it, most likly, some how some small dust particles got on the outside of the lense and they prevent the lense or the lense cover from fully opening and closing. If this is your case, please follow exactly what I did and your camera would be back to normal.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sony cyber shot dsc-n2

There could be two things causing this problem.

1- some dirt somehow got on the outside of side of the lense. So the lense could not fully retract or open out. As a result you can take any picture. If the lense comes out even a little bit, try to pull it out NOT too hard a few times. If it does not retract, turn the camera off and push the lense in (up and down) NOT too hard foe a few times. If the camera opened up 100% or retracted 100%, your camera should be back to normal.

2- If you dropped the camera, some mechanical part of the lense is broken or dislocated or the cable may have come loose. In this case you need to take out the lense from the camera and inpect it for broken pieces or loose cable. clean the outside of the lense and push the lense in and out a few times. Put the lense back on and your camera would be back to normal.

Good luck!!!!!!

Lens won't retract

if the camera is still under warrenty bring it back. If not the best thing to do would be to try forcing the lense back in by hand i know this sounds distrucive but if theres no warrenty left it will not make a difference.

My coolpix l18's lense will not retract. It says "lense error"

hi there, i am sorry but there is no reset button that can fix this problem. the gears on the lense have been dis lodged and needs to be reposition. the camara would have to be picked down completly for the lense to be removed and this is nothing you can do unless you know what you are doing. once re-posistioned the error code will go away and your camara will work as normal.you will need a technition and i cant do it for you because i am all the way i the caribbean (barbados to be exact) good luck and let me know if you get it repaired please.

Lens error

If it is a new[ish] purchase send it back via the seller. It may be an issue with the particular model. Get onto Pentax Tech support Team- See what happens- if it is an issue then a replacement free or at moderate cost may be available. If the camera is older -there will be no economic repair option.

Does your battery work with regular AA alkaline batteries ? They have higher voltage than NiMH rechargeable. I'm having a similar problem, just discovered today that my camera works fine with AA alkaline batteries.
