If you remove the accessory box and look carefully behind it, you'll see a feed dog drop sliding button. Just slide the button over to the other position, take a few stitches, and voila, the feed dogs pop up again! Hope this helps...

I have been given janome 525s the material not feeding through the foot. Unless i pull material it wont move

Make sure the feed dogs have not been dropped, ie for darning or free motion quilting. Also, make sure the stitch length is set high enough to actually create a forward stitch.

Janome Machine will not feed material !!

If the fabric is not feeding, the feed dogs are probably not operating properly. Check that they have not been dropped below the needle plate (which is done when darning or free motion quilting). In this setting, the feed dogs never rise above the needle plate to grab and pull the fabric.

The other issue could be that the feed dogs are defective or perhaps seized.

Since you did not provide a model, I can provide only this assistance. It would be helpful to locate (search for make model manual) for your machine.

Material won't feed through - the machine has worked for 25 years. Now stitches are in one place.

You don't mention the brand and model of your machine. If it is 25 years old, it's probably a mechanical machine (ie, not computerized). If it is mechanical and it has not been cleaned and oiled for quite some time, the old oil has most likely gotten sticky over the years. Sounds like the feed dogs are stuck.

Consult your owner's manual and determine that the feed dogs are not in the darning position. Then find the maintenance section on how and where to oil your machine. Most mechanical machines have oil ports (little holes) where oil needs to be applied. Use good quality sewing machine oil (not 3-in-1, WD-40, or cooking oil) or you can pick up a bottle of liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Oil at the hardware store. Apply one to two drops each spot. To help it along, you can direct hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the internal metal mechanics, focus on the feed dog area since that's where most of the problem is. Sometimes the oil and heat will help free up the old gunky oil. Gently rock the handwheel to get the oil worked in. You may have to perform the process more than once to get it all working again.

When i start to sew my presser foot is not moving at all and all thread i think accumulate at the back of cloth .. please help

The presser foot should only glide over the material. The feed dogs move the material. Check to see if your machine has a drop feed feature... for embroidery... or darning, etc. If it does return the feeds to sewing position.

Hi, have tried to use buttonhole feature on singer 4423. Dog feed teeth have dropped - won't come back up and the material isn't feeding though. Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Reverse feed dogs on Singer 4423 Remove extension table so you can see switch on BACK of machine @ left side. Flip switch to raise feed dogs up. If machine actually sewing in reverse - check n Buttonhole adjustment. Reset it (located bottom right side machine) Jimmy

My kenmore 385 won't feed fabric

Check to see what pattern is selected. Be sure it isn't the buttonhole.Select straight stitch.Move the stitch length setting to 4.Turn the handwheel and see if the feed dogs move forward. Press the reverse lever and see if they move backwards. Select straight stretch stitch and turn the wheel to see if the feed dogs move forward and backward.Check the presser foot release on top of the machine and make sure there is pressure on the foot.
Sometimes the reverse assembly on this machine stops working because it has the wrong type of grease on it and it turns into a hard gummy mess that won't let it work.

Janome mermory craft 8000 drop feed dog

I hate to sound dismissive but: read the manual. Duh. It is not as written above: drop dog........
The feed dog is the toothed pieces in the sewing machine deck, under the needle, which move the material away from you when you push the operating pedal.
Dropping the dog - ie making it inoperative - (see manual for how to on your machine) means the material has to be propelled by hand under the needle. This is especially good for freehand machine embroidery as it means you can move the material in any direction whilst sewing.
It can be easier to freehand embroider if your material is fixed in to an embroidery hoop to hold it flat while you work.
