SOURCE: GE XL44 Oven/Broiler don't work

I'm assuming the top burners work, correct? Do you still have your Owner's manual? If so, go to the "Troubleshooting Tips" section and look under the "Surface Burners Light but Oven Does Not" tips. Follow the guidance provided. You may have a gas safety valve that is turned off.

If you do not have an owner's manual, you can go to geappliances.com. Click in the Search window and go to "Use and Care Manuals. Then, type in your model number in the adjacent window. You manual is available there in .pdf format. You can download a copy if you like. Make sure you have Adobe Acrobat reader in order to view it.

Now, if it's not as simple as a gas safety valve turned off, you may have two igniters that have gone bad at the same time. It is not common, but I have seen this happen before. Just because an igniter glows does not necessarily mean it is good. Click on the link below to learn about oven igniters.

Double check the gas safety valve and reply back to me. Let me know if you need further assistance.

SOURCE: oven produces soot when running, broiler ok, stove top ok

Al, you need to seat the needle valve on the bake. Remove the bottom drawer, right below the bake burner you will see the nut just below the air shutter adjustment. Turn this nut clockwise a few times, it might seem hard but just do it. Then try the bake again, you should have a nice bluel flame. Tenbears.

SOURCE: My broiler works - but the oven does not - GE Dual Fuel range

Thanks for providing the full model number, which allows us to look up part numbers and see exploded views of your product.
Most likely the bake ignitor is bad (even if it still glows, it may not draw enough amperage to allow the gas safety valve to open). One way you can test this on your model is to swap out the broil ignitor for the bake ignitor, as they are the same part number on your model. (part number WB13T10045) The broiler is normally used much less than the oven, so the part does not fail very often on the broiler. You will have to take the cover off the floor of the oven, then the flame spreader, to reach the burner area. The ignitor is the rectangular part at the back, on the side of the burner. (only two wires to deal with) (By the way, for future reference, your model number ends is SS, as in stainless steel, not a 55)

SOURCE: Have xl44 GE Range /Oven--Oven and Broiler will

Date: 8/2/2010
I have a GE XL44 oven. It's about ten years old. Oven would not turn on, so I replaced the igniter. The igniter has to light to "tell" the gas to come on. The part was $80 here in Oklahoma and it was super simple fix.
Pull the oven out of it's place and unplug. You can shut off the gas if your buidler placed a shut off valve.
1. The oven door pulls off without tools (I wish I knew this when I cleaned the oven last year) just open the door about three inches and pull toward your chin.
2. Remove the lower storage drawer.
3. Then remove the racks.
4. Remove oven floor. The oven floor comes off with two screws in back, then lift it about an inch from the rear and you can pull the front up, clearing the lip. This is a good time to clean the ten year old food off the oven floor.
5. You will see the aluminum burner. The lower ignighter is attached to the burner. The screws to the ignighter are at an angle, dont try to remove them with out taking the burner out. To remove the lower burner, get on your side and look way in the back of the lower drawer area. Remove the two screws at the very back where the oven drawer goes. You will also unplug the two (2) wires and the then the whole burner will lift up and come out, then you can remove the ignighter screws. Take the ignighter off and take it to a appliance repair store and they will sell you a new igniter. You can look on-line as well.
The new part does not have the connectors like the original, Just cut the old wires in half and pig tail them to the new part. The new part will come with ceramic wire nuts. This whole install takes about an hour, and will save you a service call. It can seem like a hard fix, but once you dig into it, it's pretty easy. Everything goes back together in reverse. This would be a good time to change the light bulb while you are at it.
These are the same type of ignighters that are on everything these days, hot water heaters, furnaces and they are the most likely to go out since they are used quite a bit.

I have an old (20 years +) Tappanr 4 burner range with a double oven. I am missing the knob for the cleaning cycle but it says it is self cleaning. I need a replacement. I'd also like to find replacement...

chances ar erte hlower oven door , is your broiler, the older models didnt have a seperate broiler inside oven, rather they used 1 burner bar ,and depending on wher oyu place the food you would either bake(above) or broil( under) made sense, just pain in the rear to bend down to use it. as far a knob and gasket , perhaps you can find a model number under the main top assy so we can look up for you

GE J BP27G R1AD Oven Not Heating Fully

Hi Jeff. You should have a wiring diagram with the range. Check for an envelope on the back of the range, inside the back splash, or taped to the inside side wall of the range if you remove the lower drawer. That all being said, first check to see if the start or stop time knobs on the timer have been pushed in (and possibly turned). If the clock runs, it will clear this out within 12 hours, but on these old ranges often times the clock no longer runs. Make sure these knobs are turned until they have "popped" out or you won't get the necessary voltage where you need it. Secondly, when a bake element burns out, it can cause damage to the electrical contacts in the oven selector switch (part number WB22X5122 ) which can be tested with an ohm meter if you can find the electrical diagram. Also, the oven thermostat (part number WB21X5320 ) can be damaged in the same way. Unfortunately, these parts for these old units are not very cheap.
The little bit of heat you are getting in your oven now is most likely only from the 120 volts going to the broiler element when in Bake. During Bake, your bake element should get 240 volts (until thermostat is satisfied). Setting to Broil should give 240 to the broil element.
