First:  try a new **** of paper, if that works; it means your paper got damp, or old and stuck together.  Try fanning the stack of paper with your thumb on the edge, like a deck of cards.  If that works, this is why: The most common reason for paper feed issues is Humidity; when paper gets wet or hangs from the tray for weeks or months at a time, they tend to pick up the moisture in their environment...

If that doesn't work and its only four months old: you're very fortunate in that you can still send it in for warranty repair by going to the Manufacturer's website, if purchased in the USA:go to:

http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer?pageKeyCode=repairLanding

If not, try typing canon warranty repair, into your search engine.

I recommend using the phone number instead of the web site because most Customer Service representatives have the authority to email a free shipping label,  Make sure to ask as some companies will not offer unless you do.  Ask for a pre-paid, shipping label along with an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization), they may say no on the pre-paid label but you won't know, for sure, unless you ask.

Make sure to keep your paper in a cool, dry, place, after you get your printer repaired or replaced :)

I've got a 4 by 6 photo paper jam in my Lexmark S405 all-in-one printer.

Please follow the steps below to fix the problem:

1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.

2. Try to reach for the paper jam.

3. If paper jam can't be reached, open the printer cover to access the cartridge area. You may be able to get a better hold of the paper jam in the cartridge area.

4. Remove the paper jam and make sure not to tear or leave any torn piece of paper in the printer.

When paper jam is clear, try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

If problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

Hello Cindy Wells, I saw you on Fixya.com and I am having a bit of a problem with my Canon PIXMA MP490. Basically every time I try to print something the printer will start working (i can hear it...

hi there,

it may be that a paper sensor is picking up a small piece of paper in the printer. Has any paper ever torn in the printer? if so there may be some left behind. Carefully inspect the printer to see if there is any small pieces of paper in the printer. You could also try unplugging all cables and taking the outer cover off to inspect closer.

Re the ink cartridges, inkjet printers are notorious for ink drying out in the cartridges and the nozzles blocking with old ink, if the printer is not used at least once a week. It happened to me, i had to get a new printer.

Hope this helps

Hi there have got a cannon pixma 492 had problem really since i brought then recently cant use had for 12mths only use a few times a month paper gets jammed then error 5200 please help i dont know what to...

When you removed the jammed paper, did the paper come out inone piece, if not did all the pieces that were removed make up the entire sheetof paper?
Otherwise there may be still a small piece/s of paper still in the printer, which is causing this error message. When the paper does not feed straight, dirty or stickyrollers can cause it to jamb or crinkle, also failure to remove all traces ofpaper from a previous paper jamb will cause further paper jambs.
Check for tiny pieces of at the edges of the rollers, and remove these piecesof paper.
Try cleaning the rollers with methylated spirits

Brother DCP-7020 Paper Jam, we keep having the paper jam at the paper exit at the top/back of machine. I've examined closely from front, back, bottom, even removing a few easily removed parts, but can...

This is caused by dirty exit roller. As this machine is a pain to dismantle I suggest that you try and clean these rollers ( 3 or 4 rubber small ) as they rotate. Opening and closing the front door will keep rotating them for you. Use a damp wrm water lint free cloth. I use a compound named Print Clean but metho can be used also.

We have a canon MP490 printer, and it says that there is a paper jam, but there is not. We have tried everything we can think of to fix it, including unplugging it, but it hasn't worked.

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

I have a paper jam error on my LCD display, and no amount of trying has resolved this problem, so now my printer has been rendered useless. Any ideas?

If there is a paper jam the sensor for paper in the wrong place is being triggered. Remove all traces of paper from the roller areas.

Error 241.1 Paper Jam. I have reseated the tray

Brand New T652n lexmark printer get a paper jam every time! just opened and haven't been able to print one paper. Doesn't matter if you print from tray one or tray two. It gets stuck right after the rollers pick it up and try to send it to the toner. Any suggestions? I've tried to reseat the toner, plain paper, sized the paper correctly, I've tried just about everything I can think of! I can feed paper manually through the top tray, and it will print. But, just using the manual tray defeats the purpose of the other two trays. Anyone else having this issue?

After paper jam was cleared my printer wont feed

There is a small plastic gear that turns the roller, and when a paper jam occurs, oftentimes the gear strips it's teeth, and then the roller won't turn and feed the paper. I had this happen with an HP printer, and took it apart to see what the problem was. Upon finding the stripped gear, I tried to contact HP to get a replacement part and was told that they don't sell parts to anyone except HP authorized dealers, so I found a used printer and cannibalized the part, replacing it myself. Unfortunately, the broken gear problem happens a lot. About the only thing you can do is maybe load less paper, or load just the sheets you need for your print job, but even this doesn't guarantee that a jam won't occur. If you use labels a lot, they can leave glue residue on the rollers, causing a jam. You just have to keep them clean and hope for the best. In my opinion, the clean roller maintenance doesn't always work, and just a small amount of adhesive on the roller(s) can mess you up. They use a lot of plastic parts in printers these days, so they're very susceptible to breaking. Unfortunate, but that's the way it is. I guess that's their way of ensuring the printers won't last an awful long time, making people buy replacement printers sooner than they should have to. Don't think any one printer is necessarily better than the other, these days, so just try not to overload the paper and hope for the best. Sorry I don't have better news, and good luck.
