Hi there.

1. Check to the bobbin winder, is it in bobbin winding position or sewing position.
2. Look for the feed dog lowering switch, make sure they are in sewing mode.

Make sure you read that manual well. There are lots of tips and tricks.

Also letting a machine sit for long periods can cause problems. The oil even in a new machine can dry up and become like a varnish. If that is the case you'll need to have your machine serviced by a Brother professional (and then 1x a year from then on)

Good luck!

I have a singer sewing machine and my feed dogs won't advance my fabric?

Make sure the stitch length is set high enough to actually move the fabric, ie #2 or higher. Are the feed dogs in the raised position or have they been dropped for darning?

If it's an older mechanical machine, it may need a very thorough cleaning and Oiling. Old oil will cause the machine parts to seize.

The feed dogs on my sewing machine will not raise

if your question is that the fabric didn't feed when I tried a zig-zag stitch , well then this might be a normal thing to happen on your machine , some machines when set to MAX size zig-zag stitch retract the "feed dogs" as you call them so that the operator can hand move the fabric around under presser foot , this is task called "darn" and its usually for filling large holes in fabric (socks!!) and for adding embroidery too (special needle)

I only have a small amount of feed through the sewing claw, i mostly have to pull it through on my Toyota 2400, is this normal is is something wrong?

Unable to locate much information about your make/model machine.

If your machine has the capability of dropping the feed dogs for darning or free motion quilting, check that the feed dogs are in the up position for sewing. Also, verify that the stitch length is set to at least #2. Any shorter stitch selection will cause the machine to advance the fabric so slightly that it will nearly sew in place.

Some machines also have a pressure adjustment for the presser foot. If the fabric you are sewing is very fine, the feed dogs may have difficulty gripping the fabric to advance it through the machine. You can add body to the fabric by including a stabilizer when sewing the fabric, ie a wash-away stabilizer.

Baby lock BL4-736d the feed dogs will not move forward

Make sure the stitch length is set long enough to actually advance the fabric. If set too short, the fabric movement will be very minimal. Also check that the presser foot pressure adjustment is set for the type of fabric you are sewing. The adjustment can be made for light- or heavy-weight fabric. If the presser foot pressure is too tight or too loose, it will have difficulty pulling the fabric.

How old is this machine? At zero setting of stitching length the fabric wouldn't move. There may be problem in stitching length mechanism or the fabric feeding mechanism is wornout.

Why would my Singer 6235 not feed the fabic:

h! there,
fabric moves forward when machine run due to movement of feed dogs, feed dog has a teeth, when your foot presser goes down attached to fabrics the pressure hold the fabric between pressure foot and feed dogs that why when machine run feed dogs pushed fabric when recieved stitch.try to check adjustment of feed dogs it maybe set at rest or neutral.reset it to upward towards needle.check also bobbins thread if accumulation was build up under feed dogs.regard and have a nice day.

Stitches don't feed properly

Remove the foot and the needle plate. Check the area where the stitches are formed to see if there are any rough edges on the plate or stitch finger. Sometimes you will find a crack in the plate that is hidden under the foot. While the foot is up, the gap closes but when it is lowered and fabric is trying to feed the crack opens and the rough edge won't allow it to advance.

Fabric doesn't advance

Have you checked your feed dog position? The fabric will not advance if the feed dogs are in the down position. For the machines which don't have the raise/lower feed dog capability, there is a plate that covers the feed dogs and must be removed to advance the fabric when sewing.
