Question about SMC Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a smcwbr145-n4 router. I'm trying to set up the security and the easy setup disc wont go any further than checking my connections. It says there are 2 bad connections. However, I have checked and rechecked those connections and they are alright because they work, and there's no other place they could go. I used the set up on the web by entering 192.168.2.1 in the address bar, then using admin for the user name and smcadmin for password. This worked for me before, but now all i get is a blank page. Help me please! Robyn

First

  • Press and hold the RESET button for more than 5 seconds
  • Reboot router

This will reset router to the factory default settings
then
  • You can login using your web browser
  • Connect to your router with a wired connection
  • Goto IP: 192.168.2.1 (in your web browser)

Linksys wrt54g, need console on pc but dont have disc

Are you trying to connect the Xbox to the wireless network?
If yes then you will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
is there any computer on line using the router ?
on that computer you can open the setup page of the router. check the wireless ettings and the security settings then try to connect to the wireless network on the Xbox.
See if that works.

Says not secure

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
To access the Internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router.

Setup wizard doesn't locate wireless router.

Any old ethernet cable should be fine. The setup disc is generally used only for initial setup to establish communications between router and pc, and to also configure your internet providers settings. You can access your router from your pc by going to http://192.168.1.1 and you can change settings in the router from there instead of using setup disc. If you insist on using the setup wizard disc you usually have to set your computer's ip address to a specific number and possibly reset router to default state (see manual or http://www.linksys.com).

Belkin n1 wireless router no security!!

Check ip address of your pc. Go to DOS Prompt, type ipconfig then click enter. Look for DEFAULT GATEWAY(that will be your router ip address). Open your browser and type the default gateway on the address field(example: 192.168.1.1). That will take you to your router page. You can set up security there.

Belkin n1 wireless router no security!!

You need to setup security through the web browser interface. You can connect to the web based interface by pointing your browser to the IP address of the router. U will be asked for a username and password after which there is a security tab where in you can set WEP/WPA encryption and password, etc.
