Question about GE I Series GSS20IET

Open Question

I bought a used GE model GSS20IETA WW side by side about a month and a half ago and it was working fine until about two weeks ago. Thats when the freezer and refrigerator units wouldn't get very cold. I adjusted the temperature controls to the max. but the freezer still would barely keep ice frozen. What can I do?

often there is a cover in the rear of the freezer with some screws remove these and put low temp grease on the fan. The Problem Is %100 The Fan So If You Look Up Your Fridge On Google It Will Tell You Where The Fan Is.

Try unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plug it in again. It may reset itself that way.

SOURCE: Refrigerator temperature running too high

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

In my GE side-by-side there is a defrost temp sensor located near the top of the evaporator coil. I think the control board uses that temp sensor to know when it should be done defrosting.

On the schematic of my fridge (link below), the defrost thermistor is part number 240 in the diagram (not part number 241, which is a different temp sensor located adjacent to the one you want)

I don't know why the defrost element would fail immediately other than incorrect supply voltage or just a bad defrost element.

One surface light bulb on GE Profile microwave keeps burning out

I have the same problem. The left one burns out within a couple of hours use, the other one lasts a couple of months and is then gone. This pattern has repeated over 8 years. I replace them every now and then and then just go without until I get the urge again to fix it. Maybe smaller lower wattage lamps are worth trying...
