Question about HP DeskJet 6988 Printer
Is the printer software installed on the laptops? Are you trying to print from the laptop itself, or a phone or tablet?
Sounds like from what you said the devices are on the network, but they still need the correct software to communicate with each other.
Try to use a smartphone and install the HP mobile printing app, if that app is able to find your printer, it is indeed on the network correctly.
If you can print from the phone/tablet, but not the laptops, you need to install the software drivers for your printer to your laptop(s) you wish to print from.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: wireless connection issues
First open services goto start Run type services.msc and see for the entries (hp cue discovery , hpqcxs08 and hp network device) and make sure they are enabled.
Then Goto device manager (Right click on computer and then properties then device manager) Here click on View and show hiden devices and under network adaptors see if you have a red X on HP Printers then delete all he etries you have for HP here (If t prompters a restart restart later) after you have deleted all you may restart your computer.
Then start to install or add a device from the disk.
If it finds the printer do not click on next got to device manager then view and show hiden devices and see if you have the HP Printer with a Red X if yes right click on it and enable it (If it prompts a restart DO NOT RESTART) close this device manager window and in the instalation widow click on next and it should complete the installation.

I discussed this with an HP tech & worked on the solution myself to verify his answer &, of course, he was right!
Your printer will only recognize one connection: either wireless or hardwired but NOT both. That is why it keeps switching back to hardwired mode.

Think I have sorted this one out. Download FULL drivers package (I went through HP printer diagnostics to get to this). When main install screen appears select 'ADD Device' and follow it through - my B110a now works perfectly, and wirelessly for both printing and scanning. Hope this solves your problem.
