Do Not Ever try to format using the computers operating system. Mac's will destroy the card and in some cases so will Windows.

To format the card use only the format feature that is on your camera. Sometimes even a card formatted on one camera will not work on another.

The only way to be sure to get all the image files from the card is to use a card reader. Some printers and computers have these built in, but if he doesn't have that option, then he will have to spend $15 and buy one. It connects to a USB port and the card goes in it.

Then all he has to do is use the file manager to drag and drop the images on the card to a folder on his computer that he has pre-named so he knows what is in the file.

When i try to do anything on my camera i.e.(take picture, delete picture, or crop picture) an error message pops up reading "card protected". How do i fix this?

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Importing Error

The problem is probably the same one i had. After successfully importing videos and pictures from my SD card, Windows 7 started giving me that error. I discovered that it was caused by the fact that I had imported some directly to an external USB hard drive (E:) and had set the default import directory to it (I can't remember if I had done this dileberately, or if W7 remembered it).
Fix: Just before you start the import, click the more options link at the bottom, and change your default folder to the local drive or to an attached external drive, something that exists at the time.
Worked like a charm after that!

You may try to format the memory card and then try again. If needed, you can use a camera photo recovery tool to recover photos from memory card.

Nikon S1 memory problem

Just so you know, I have this problem also. Anyway, the only thing that works for me is to turn the camera on WITHOUT the card inserted, then insert the card. After this, it will let me take ONE photo, video, or noise clip before it gives me the error again (strangely enough, I just figured out this solution a couple hours ago as I was browsing a listing for a similarly infected camera on eBay).
For a permanent fix, the "cheap camera repair man" can repair both the menus and the error for 55 bucks on his website (DynamicCamera.com).

Toshiba Card Error

Try formating the card in the computer. This can be done with windows explorer, just right click on the drive that the card is in, a menu will pop down and click format, then start. Hope this helps.
