Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies
Sorry you are having trouble getting help. You can exit this thread anytime and you'll be prompted and or receive email to nominate the expert with the best solution. At this point you can invoke the unresolved money back guarantee.
In your case, this comes up a lot and Canon does not offer out print heads, its a factory fix, which is weird as most of us can get them for the other printer makers.
One problem does come up is if you have been refilling your black or buying refilled ink cartridges then this does happen all the time because the pigment is not small enough to Canon standards than the nanometer holes in the printhead.
Assuming you've been using the Canon ink and this has happened. You have used the machine beyond is know MTBF or Mean Time Between Failure rate. This would explain everything and your solution is to get another machine, preferably one where you can replace the print heads in the future. So that leaves out Canon.
In summary, exit this thread, when prompted choose unsatisfied or whatever it is they putting in front of you now, or wait for the email and then do it. You can also contact Fixya.com customer support and do a full write up, but copy and paste the url of this thread first so FixYa can take note of who was failing you. Sorry I didn't get hold of you earlier and give you a straight answer.

On the cartridge bay remove the foam pad and clean in a utility sink as it will be very messy, use alcohol for faster drying time.... make sure it is 100% dry and replace also check the area on the cartridge holder where the head goes to see if there is any gunk there, then clean the bottom of the cartridge bay with rubbing alcohol
another thing you will want to inspect is the control contacts on both the cartridge and the holder
hope this gets you 1 step closer to resolution
