Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

My Eureka/The Boss doesn't seem to have the suction power it had. However, when I place my hand under the hose, it has good suction, then when I try to pull in a small particle, it doesn't, unless I have the hose nozzle completely over the particle. The vac is 10 yrs. old. I cleaned everything. Someone said the belt. Would the belt matter if the hose doesn't **** well? It is just old and worn out? It did shut off recently do to overheating. Help. Thanks. Lorraine

Doesn't "The Boss" Vacuum have a filter? Perhaps your filter is clogged and not allowing it to work properly.

I did clean the filter, but I'm going to replace the belt and see if that helps any. Thanks for your suggestion.

My eureka boss 5856 has suction through the hose, but the cyclone isn't spinning and it will not pick up anything. I have tried using it normally and with just the hose and it will not pick up.

Is the suction strong or weak?
Have you cleaned or replaced the filter?

A plugged filter will restrict air flow and cause vacuums to lose the ability to work properly.

Eureka Smart Vac The Boss no suction from either setting. I have taken it apart trying to see if it was clogged but it isn't. Checked the hose it is not sliced.

Remove the bag cover and feel for suction above the motor. If their is suction there then check the bag compartment is sealed. You can drop a coin down the hose to check for blockages all the way to where the bag attaches.

I have a Eureka Contour model 2900 type A upright vacuum, the roller works fine nothing clogged, took it apart motor blade is free of debris, no suction from tube and blasts OUT air from the front HEPA...

Even with your explanation,it seems the hose is clogged.Try taking the hose off, then blow through it or pour water through it.If this doesn't do it,make sure the suction canals are going to the proper areas.

How do I get the suction over to the hand held hose?

Once you detach the hose from the power head, the suction is at the end of the hose.

No suction on my eureka boss smart vac. The belt is fine and the roller moves. I just changed the bag but no dice. any insight?

I know this is an old question but this is a good vac and maybe I can help somebody else some day, wish I'd figured this out a couple months ago when this problem first started. :} Anywho, this is another option from an amateur; I don't know the right terms but here goes: Right below the yellow flow knob (Floor/Hose) are the tops of two hoses, one to floor beater, one leading to hose. There is a sort of black clip holding these in place. Open it up, it hinges toward the front of the vacuum. On the back of the vacuum to the right of the lower cord wrap is a gray screw-looking thing, with little pix of locks imprinted above - one locked, one unlocked. Turn the screw toward unlock. Take the top of the black tube that leads to the hose and maneuver it out of the hole it's in, and you may find your clog in the top there. I found just a handful of dog hair, leaves and sticks stuffed in that tube but it was dense enough to stop flow to the hose. Removing it fixed the problem completely.

I tried the electrical-tape-around-the-wooden-spindle technique. After a minute or so, it's back to functioning normally.

Hose has no suction

Most uprights need to be in the up-right locked position to enable the hose pickup.

Eureka the Boss bagless

Sounds like you have a clog somewhere. Check the filter inside the dust compartment, if is very dirty it won't allow ait to flow thru, Part #62132, DCF-H filter. Check the hose, take it off if you can and drop something in it to see if it comes out the other end, if it doesn't, then the hose is clogged. Check bown by the brush roll, the inlet may be plugged. Also if the belt is more then say 6 months old, you may want to replace it, I am sure it is strertched, part #61120B, extended life belt.

I like using a Wire Clothes hanger to work the stuff out with. If you fashion a fish hook of sorts out of the wire, you can catch things inside the brush head and pull them out.
