Unless you are able to provide Garmin with a receipt of the initial purchase you are out of luck. They will not provide you with the PIN because they are trying to limit the number of gps' being stolen. You may try selling "as-is" on ebay or sell individual parts - (screen, charger, manual) on ebay or a similar aution website.

Hi Don,

You probably just need to find the reciept where you bought the C550.  Sounds like Garmin is protecting its customers when they say $300.  This is most unfortunate thing to happen to you.  Is the Garmin $300 issue as I thought and related to you not having the registration code or Reciept?

Lost PIN for Garmin Lock - Nuvi Series

I've seen many postings from users who say they have lost their PIN code.

For those of you that don't know what a PIN code is:

Garmin provides a feature called "Garmin Lock", which allows the GPS owner to assign a (4) digit numeric unlock access code or PIN to their GPS.

The PIN is designed to prevent your GPS from being used by an un-authorized user. It was also meant to be used a a deterrent to thieves, making the GPS useless if stolen.

The PIN setup can be accessed by pressing the "wrench" symbol on the main menu (Nuvi Series). Next, press the "gear" symbol and you should see a listing for Garmin Lock.

When you set up the PIN, you will be asked to enter in a (4) digit numeric code. After you enter the 4th digit, you will be asked again for the code. This is to make sure that both entries match and that verify that the PIN that you request will be the one written into memory.

Your PIN is written into non-volatile memory..... it's not a file that is accessible via USB communications between the GPS and a PC. You can't clear it by disconnecting the power or disconnecting the battery or letting the battery run down. There is no jumper or switch inside the GPS to reset it, so don't waste your time tearing the GPS apart.

Now, after you set the PIN, you will be asked to set the "secure" location. This can be anywhere.... your work location, home, local gas station, school, etc. In order to set the secure location, your antenna must be up and you have to have a satellite lock. If you don't have a lock, the "set" key will be grayed out until you acquire a lock.

The secure location is your "back-up key" in case you forget your PIN. If you have forget your pin, all you have to do is physically go to the secure location. Make sure your antenna is up and that you have a satellite lock. When you are in the secure location, your GPS will NOT ask you for the PIN when you turn it on. You'll then be able to reach the main menu and change the PIN and secure location to something else if you desire.

If you have forgot both the PIN and secure location you are out of luck. You'll have to send your unit back to Garmin to have it unlocked. Garmin may charge you for this service.

Note: If you do send the unit back to Garmin to be unlocked and you are found not to be the original owner of the GPS and it's determined to be stolen, Garmin will contact law enforcement (they're policy on this is right on their website under FAQ's).

Garmin cannot be unlocked unless you know the pink or the security location where the pin was initially set. If you don't know any of these two, your unit has to go to Garmin so they can remove it. There phone number is 1-800-800-1020. Garmin Lock is designed to prevent theft and it works really well. There are no cracks to by the system either. Sorry.

My pin doesnt work and I dont know how to reset my garmin nuvi 205

If your pin does not work, you need to go to your security location (location of when you set the pin the very first time) to unlock it. If you don't remember that you need to call garmin at 1-800-800-1020 to set up an rma to send the unit in to have it unlocked.

Touchscreen is not responding. Web Updater Wizard couldn't find the device.

If there is a PIN set and the touchscreen has failed, you wont be able to gain access to the drive until the PIN has been entered. Please see this link for more info:

Too much info to retype here.

Hi. I forgot the pin code for my nuvi310. can you help me please?

Garmin Pin codes are accessed ( when forgotten) By taking it back to the coordinates that it was first set. You would know where you were when you set the pin code. So just mosey on back there and once in place access your unit and reset the code.

There is no master code, that process IS the master code access

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

My gps is locked and it needs a password to unlock but i dont know the password how can i unlock it to have access on it?

If you have forgotten the PIN, take the unit to the location at which the PIN was set. The unit will unlock and you can reset the PIN. Your only other option is to send the unit back to Garmin. Be aware, however, if you are not the owner of record Garmin will NOT return the unit to you, and may alert law enforcement if they suspect the unit was stolen.

Did you buy it brand new? If so, then someone must have returned it previously after they set the security pin. The only way to gain access to your GPS is to either go to the saved security location (if one was also set) which after acquiring the satelites will unlock the device and then you can reset the pin, or to call Garmin or go to a Garmin authorized dealer. This security pin is there for a reason.
