It really depends on the type of material you are sewing. But most machines are set at around 4 from the factory. remember right to tighten, left to loosen.

It took me a while but I finally found your threading diagram which has information about tension for your model as well. The diagram has it set at "5" I hope it helps!

I am having adjustment problems on my machine, it did not have an owners manual. missing stitches and bunching up underneath the meterial

Have you changed the needle ? Is the fabric a knit ? If the needle has been used for awhile, it may be dull. Many modern fibres are quite hard on needles, which need to be replaced fairly often.

Many knit fabrics require a ball point or Q needle.. [ Kenmore\'s brand of ball point knit needle]. Many knits are notorious for causing skipped stitches and a special needle for knits can really help with this.

If thread is bunching up, is this underneath or on top of the fabric ?

If it is underneath, the top tension may need to be adjusted. Mal adjusted top tension can cause a lot of problems, and the mechanism that controls it can become worn and may need service or replacement.

Shuttle action not working, doesnt catch the down thread, bunches up thread and breaks needle.

Hi. I did not have this exact problem with my Featherweight. My machine was not stitching properly (top stitch looked so-so, but lots of thread bunching on underneath side of fabric). I took it to repair shop and learned that I was threading the needle thread on the wrong side of the metal plate which is part of the take-up arm (I do not think that the threading instructions make this distinction). After the repairman pointed out the problem & threaded the machine, it made a proper stitch.
My suggestion for this issue: check the bobbin threading. My bobbin has to be inserted so that it turns counterclockwise in order to catch the down thread.

Sounds like the timing adjustment of the bobbin case has been upset. Have that checked, it involves an adjustment on the gear that drives the bobbin case.

I have an older kenmore sewing machine. It's been

When I have run into similar problems with my older Singer, it's because there is a bit of thread caught somewhere in the bobbin mechanism that doesn't allow the shuttle to run freely. Take the bobbin assembly apart and use a bright light to see if you see any bits of thread in there.

Good luck and let me know if this works!

My new sewing machine, just opened to use, is bunching thread on the underneath or bobbin side when I attempt to straight stitch. What is causing this to happen. Thanks.

re thread the top and bobbin threads

after pulling up the bobbin thread pull both threads to the back and hol them when stitching the first few stitches

with out holing the threads the machine will pull the thread into the machine and bunch the thread

Wont sew thread bunches up

Hi!

I think you are threading the top of the machine incorrectly. Make sure that what I'm saying is correct, use two color threads to sew with- and you will see that it is in fact the top thread that is bunching.

This might be a tension problem. Could be the bobbin is not threaded in the case right. First, check the threading of the bobbin and then check the stitch.

Next, adjust the tension on the bobbin case. There is usually a small screw on the case that can be tightened or loosened. I think you may need to adjust it a bit or adjust the top tension knob, just a small bit at a time. It the top does not change the stitch, then go to the bobbin case and adjust the screw to tighten the stitch a little bit more.

Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Make sure your needle is in correctly...most machines are flat to the back except the really old ones.

Bobbin thread bunching

I have a Singer 2950. The thread keeps getting bunched up on the reserve side of the fabric, and does not stitch. It is driving me crazy. I think I have the bobbin threaded correctly, as well as the machine. I have tried everything! Please help!
