Your DVD player has a built in wireless card (just like a laptop would) You can use this to connect TO your wireless access point (router)

So, yes you will still need a wireless access point installed, so devices like a laptop/DVD player can connect to the internet.

I hope this helps,

I SIGNED UP but have been unable to watch anything. Called comcast .my blue ray is not connecting to internet. I haVE wireless THAT'S NOT PROBLEM. Called Netflix 2x's still haven&#

It seems the problem is your Blu-Ray player can't connect to your wireless network. Based on what you said (and based on what the problem usually is), I'm guessing that you don't have the WPA (or WEP) key to your network. If you don't know it, you can log in to your router and look on the "security" or "wireless security" tab. It might be called "WEP key" or "WPA passkey" or "network password" or whatever. That is probably the code that the Blu-Ray player is looking for.

I could get more specific if you posted the make and model of your Blu-Ray player and router (or access point). If you also post the operating system (Windows XP or 7 or MacOS X or whatever) of a computer that is able to connect wirelessly, I can tell you how to get the WPA key off that computer.

Can't connect my blu=ray dvd to my wireless internet

Please clarify your model number. If you have the DMP-BD60, it only has wired networking capabilities. A USB wi-fi dongle will not work (the USB port is only for storage devices). If you are connecting it to a wired port on a wireless bridge (switch) or directly to your wireless router and having trouble with the connection, check your cables and that your network is up. Next check that you have not restricted the number of devices allowed to connect to the router. There are ways to limit the number of IP addresses in the router setup. If you allowed 4 addresses and the blu-ray player will be number 5, you need to adjust the settings for your router.

Please add a comment with the model number if you are using a different blu-ray player. I hope this helps.

I just don't know what to do far as setting up the blu-ray to stream i can get netflix on my wii system and the router is in my daugters room and i have a laptop in the livingroom . do i have to buy...

Unless your blu ray player is wireless, then it doesnt matter. Most if not all blu ray players have an ethernet port on the back. Youll have to run an ethernet wire from your router to the back of your blu ray player. If it does happen to be wireless then you can use the router you already have and you dont have to buy another one. your owners manual has instructions on how to set up internet weather it be wired or wireless.

I have Comcast high speed internet, and recently purchased a Linksys model WRT160N V3 wireless broadband router to allow me WiFi access throughout my home. I have a 2008 Apple MacBook (13") that I'm...

I had issues as well until I changed my router I also went with the linksys router and changed out to D-Link wireless router. I understand that who wants to pay the extra for their wireless router. It is not much more to get one of theirs that is already configured for comcasts dynamic IP address's. This is the fast way to fix the issue. However in any case some routers do not work with comcast they should you would think?
Unplug everything and start from scratch. Do not hook anything up at once. Start with the Comcast modem and plug in the R-45 cable into the router first. Then start the computer up again and the router. Now plug in one computer at a time. Wait for it to configure by checking the Internet on the Mac book first. You will need to make sure that the Mac-book is configured and working first. The Mac-book should be WiFi ready and you should be able to log in to it. Comcast is a dynamic IP service it will find the Mac-book give it some time to search for it. Once this is working the internet on the Mac-book then do the rest of them power them on insert the compatible WiFi connectors that will work with your router. Then one by one do them all until they are working.
Worst case scenario would be to either purchase a D-Link router that does work with comcast this is what I have. My phones also started working as well. After doing this I also researched the comcast pages to find the compatible routers that will work for you. Or get their wireless router to finish this project. I know it is not the answer you are looking for but it is what I did to resolve my issue which was a true pain in the buns. Thanks for using FixYa! John

You would connect an ethernet cable between the bluray player and wireless router. If the wireless router is too far away you would need a Sharp PLC adaptor

What does it mean entering the encription key of the access point being connected?

If your player is connected to the internet then you need to check your wireless router. You could first try power cycling the router by unplugging the power cord from the back of your wireless router for 15-30sec or get a paper clip and hit the small reset pin hole on the back of the router. If your still getting this message then you need to find out what wifi security phrase or code is on your wifi router either you have WEP or WPA-PSK security code for your home network. The access point is your wireless router or Modem. If you do not remember or have the passkey then you need to contact your internet router/modem manufacture.
