All of a sudden my ps3 is showing at 572p (instead of 1080p) - it looks like a pc screen that was originally at 1024x768 and is now 800x600. I have tried the usual stuff - keeping my finger on the start button for 5 seconds when turning on the machine and I have gone to the settings to ensure it is at 1080p but it reverts back to 572p I would really appreciate help. many thanks.

SOURCE: PS3 either won't turn on, or freezes immediately. HELP!!!!

OK it sounds like a problem I had with one of the units that came into my shop, I do believe you will need a new part which means you will need to break the seal. I suggest you call sony and see what they say and what they will do for you. 1-800-345-SONY (7669)
If they want to charge you id say forget it and try it yourself.
i can send you a guide to help you fix it.

I am thinking a sensor board or a power supply could be others and its hard since its not in my face but let me know what sony says and letss fix this baby.

I do also buy broken ps3s and can help you find a steal on a used or new unit!

SOURCE: HDMI green screen

1-HDMI is available in several versions. The PLAYSTATION 3 is compatible with HDMI version 1.3 or higher, which will take full advantage of Blu-ray Disc™ high-definition video. There are also "Type A" and "Type B" connectors. The PLAYSTATION 3 uses the 19-pin Type A connector, which will allow resolutions up to 1080p.
The HDMI cable is not included with the PLAYSTATION 3. If you are using an HDMI to DVI converter, you may wish to remove this adaptor.

2- The resolution output (i.e., picture quality) of the PLAYSTATION 3 will depend on three factors:
The type of cable used and the inputs available on the TV or display monitor.
The maximum resolution the TV or display monitor can support. The PLAYSTATION 3 can output two types of resolution: HD and SD. Refer to the TV or display monitor's owner's manual to check which video modes are supported.
The maximum resolution programmed into the source material (movie or game). Refer to the software packaging for information on maximum resolution details or contact the publisher directly.

3- Try connecting with the supplied AV Cable instead of the HDMI to see if you can get a successful installation. This will help determine where the problem may be with your particular HMDI setup and/or equipment.

4- Disconnect any coaxial cables at the point closest to the television. Signals sent through coaxial cables may cause interference with the sound and picture outputted from the PLAYSTATION 3 which results in buzzing and humming noises from your display and speakers.

SOURCE: ps3 freezes at startup screen/ green red dots/lines,

Turn off the PS3 with the switch on the back, then turn back on. wait till the light is solid red then hold your finger on the start button for abount 10 seconds until you hear it beep twice.

It will then ask you to connect a controller via the usb cable and press the PS button. Once you do this it will bring up the reset menu.

Unfortunately the only way I found that solves this is a full system restore that wipes the hard drive completely.

You do however retain and data saved online such as COD stats etc and playstation store purchases with your PSN.

Hope this helps??

Graphic problems with Playstation 3 game

You first should look at the back of the game jewel case to see what the maximum supported resolution is. also to achieve 1080p your main video will have to be connected by an hdmi cable, if it is in fact 1080p that your game can support then you need to goto system settings on your ps3 then goto video. and make sure that highest resolution and upconverter is on and ps smoothing helps with clarity!!

MY PS3 DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORK WITH THE HIGH DEFINITON CABLE IT CAME ON FORA FEW SECONDS THEN SCREEN COMES UP WITH NO SIGNAL????

This usually happens when you first buy your ps3 and try to use the HDMI connection immediately. The problem is that the ps3's default output resolution is set to 480i out of the box, and when you try to use an HDMI connection first, HDMI can't do that resolution. HDMI only does 480p, 720p 1080i and 1080p.
See :)

This also happens if you move your ps3 a lot. As it is, HDTV's are either 1080p (full HD) or 720p (including 1080i). If, for example, your tv is 1080p, when you set your display settings in the ps3 menu, it will set your XMB, or ps3 main menu to the max resolution of your tv, 1080p in this case. The resolution will automatically adjust when you start a game, and that game has a native resolution output. That's why, most of the time, games will play in 720p, because that's there native, or original, resolution. This is also the reason why sometimes people have no display on there TV, or a black screen, and when they play a game, that will actually display. That's because your tv can ACCEPT that resolution of that game.

  • Have your ps3 in standby mode (red light).
  • Now, press and hold the power button in the front down. Your ps3 will beep twice. Let it go almost exactly after you heard the second beep.
  • Wait 10-15 seconds. A display will show up, and just answer yes to all!

My ps3 didn't like a HDMI connection very much. I tried the Composite input cables and they worked great with no screen flicker.

1080p to 1080i

Use the original composite (yellow, red, white) cable that came with the PS3 and connect to a composite input on the TV. This way you can see the setting for the PS3 and make your changes. Hope this helps

1080p high def issues

The HDMI cable I had originally wasn't a good enough quality. I purchased an HDMI v1.3 cable and everything works at 1080p. You don't need to pay loads for a cable, got mine from Play for £9.99.

Will not display 1080p from a Sony ps3??

Connect your PS3 through the HDMI 2 port on the TV and as a PC under the tv settings. Then auto setup the tv on the PS3 and it will now see it as 1080P. It will give you some error message whenever the PS3 is first turned on but it will work. Hope this helps everyone.

My tv shows its's geting 1080i only

1080p signal... THE MITSU. WD-65731 has a resolution of 1080p its just the res your PS3 is pumping into your screen is loaded with a little bit more pixels than you 1080p res MITSU. I suggest getting a MITSU WD-57731 since it has a 1080P/24 input. and has great clarity and HD ample for the BD of your PS3. however the differences in picture rate and quality is very small. goodluck.
