Question about Denon DN-C635 CD Player

1 Answer

Have a Denon DN-C635 CD player . Replaced motor spindle / laser assembly (plug and play part assembly from Denon $45 old price $151) It loads disc , voice coil moves laser lens up and down but spindle motor does not activate then a NO DISC appears in display . I tried another assembly assuming maybe I had a dud . same problem . Any thoughts . About to order service manual so I can check supply voltages etc . Have there been any Ribbon issues with these units? Have four of these units and I have replaced assembly's before which always cured my previous issue's but this is a new one . Dave, Holding the motor spindle / laser assembly in a position where the white ribben plug in receptacle is facing in an upward position, look down to the lower left hand corner of the print board just under the plug in. You will see a small blob of solder bridging two contact points. Remove this solder bridge. I have found two new Denon assemblys with this problem.........*****

Denon DN-C635 CD Player problem.

In working with consumer electronics a lot of years, the pickup, mechanism or CD section is not always at fault but people that
are trying to work on their own equipment make assumptions that may not be correct. If you put in a new CD player then the other issues as with all wave soldered equipment can be bad solder joints and even bad solder at joints where the connectors are as these get a lot of activity in a repair. Look at the PCB well. I have fixed a lot of equipment by resoldering bad or broken joints. Check around power transistors and those larger drive transistors for these broken joints.

Denon UD-M3 CD Receiver CD playing

Sounds like your spindle motor is shot. What happens is, the bushings in the motor that turns the CD disk are worn. So tilting the unit will change the loading of the motor shaft to an " un-worn" spot on the bushings and the CD plays properly. The spindle motors are chepa for the most part, but the labour might bite you a little because it is a fairly involved job. If the unit is still under warranty....great...if it is just off warranty, you may get some good will service from Denon......best of luck...Rob

New laserunit won't work

You seem confident enought to take it apart, have you tried cleaning the runners that the laser runs backward and forward on.
Some times they collect dirt/dust and the laser can't move smoothly so it jerks and skips.

Does not recognise disc

Try to change the laser unitKSS-240A (opticals). In most cases problem solved. The "zik-zik" sound is made by the motors in the unit as the laser tries to read the CD.
Caution, after installing the new laserunit remove the short circuits on the laserunit itself. This it put there just to protect the laser from static energie faulure during repair.
