Question about Konus 2109 KON (30x60) Binocular

1 Answer

I have a Konus NewZoom 10 (10 30x60). The zoom lever only controls one side. Could I fix it myself and, if not, is it worth trying to get it fixed?

The product will require you to send it in for service because there is a critical alignment that must be done to give the 3D effect which requires special equipment. My sense is the repair with parts and labor would not be cost effective to repair but cheaper to replace.

The zoom lever is not working moves but doesnt change

If the zoom lever is not working then I would recommend buying a new pair without a zooming mechanism. Zoom binoculars are more trouble than they are worth. Sorry!

HF10 zoom goes without any explicit request

My HF10 started to mysteriously autozoom as well, and I had made no setup changes. I don't have exactly the same symptoms as you describe except that it would begin to zoom when I didn't want it to. I noticed the [I.AF] (Instant AutoFocus) icon, so I went into the menu (Camera Setup - AF Mode) and turned the "Instant AF" to "Normal AF". After that, the autozoom seemed to have stopped. I set it back to "Instant AF" and it did not autozoom again. I wouldn't know how to turn the autozoom back on again even if I wanted to, but thankfully it appears to be gone now. Hopefully it will stay in manual zoom mode. Hope that helps.

Heat comes out driverside/cool air comes out the passenger side?

It sounds like your blend doors are broken. As it turns out, this is a VERY common problem with grand cherokees. My father and I fixed this problem on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 about 2 months ago using a product called Heater Treater, found here: http://www.heatertreater.net/

You can find a very helpful detailed write-up of the fix/installation here: http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=854246

Trust me, this REALLY works and a lot of Jeep Grand Cherokee owners, including myself, have done this. YOU WON'T HAVE TO REMOVE YOUR DASHBOARD, as the repair is done by simply removing your glove box. The downside is that you will lose Dual Climate Control, as the driver side thermostat will now control both sides. For me, it was worth it. Only spending about $150 for a Do-It-Yourself solution, versus spending about $1000 to have a mechanic remove my dashboard to fix it.

Good luck!

Broken zoom

The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but they're worth a try:

Can't zoom

To my regret you can't repair it by yourself and it should be repaired in a professional lab. Following the repair cost you should decide, whether it worth it.
