Question about ASUS P5PE-VM Motherboard
Your motherboard has Intel graphics and audio. The link above is an Intel download site which i recommend you try. Torwards the top of the page on right, you will see a white window "Run IntelDrive update utility". Click on this and allow to run. This should tell you what you have and what to update, if it doesn't automatically or, if it offers to run updates, allow it to do so. In "Top recommended downloads", lower on page to the left, it lists "Intel Graphics MediaAccelerator Drive". It should include this in you updates but if not this is one you should get.
You have-Intel Extreme2 Graphics-chipset(video), and ADI 1888(audio). Hope this helps.

I would try to download the XP version of the VGA drivers and attempt to install them. This motherboard is not listed on ASUS's website as Windows 7 Compatible. The XP drivers and P5PE-VM download page can be found here:

and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Acer
Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support).
Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating
system when requested. Download and install the Audio drivers.
Try using the VLC Player. It comes with drivers and codec. I've seen it solve many sound and audio issues.
Try using VLC as your player. Go to www.google.com and in the search box type "download vlc" (without the quotes). Look for the Video Lan download from site www.videolan.org/vlc Download and install it. It downloads and installs in 3 minutes or so. It's a very fast player, smooth and it can play just about any type of dvd formats and media. It's totally FREE.
