If your router got fried during a storm, then its not going to come back on. So, its basically useless now. You will have to out & by a new one.

We had an electrical storm and I did not have surge protection on my Compaq 7360 desk top. Now, I cannot get any movement on my computer, it is dead. I have checked the receptacle and it is OK. Is there...

Sorry to tell you your computer is indeed fried. Go inside and check the motherboard fuse although I serious doubt it will work again

No surge protector will hold back a lightning strike. Any one who sells these at a specialty computer store will tell you that. High school kids that work at Best Buy don't know anything if you ask them.

We had a storm and since then I cant connect to the internet...the connection's good but I cant connect (tried IE and firefox-neither worked)

You should try unplugging your router and cable / dsl modem for a few minutes, then reboot your computer.

That's the first and easiest way of fixing it.

My network card got damaged during a storm. Dell desktop 4600c

If you don't want to wait until Dell send you back one, just go to Best Buy or any other computer store and buy a small-factor PCI network card, I assume you have an free PCI slot available, if you have a wireless router then it maybe be easy to get an external USB-based wireless network card.

I have a D-Link DI-624 Wireless Router. My Comcast cable high speed does work but none of the wireless laptops are seeing the network. I've unplugged it etc but it still doesn't come up.

There are a few configuration problems that can cause this. lets start with the basics. I will assume two things for this process.
a- that you will be right next to the router with a wireless laptop/computer so we can rule out transmission interference
b- that the laptop/pc that you use has connected to a wireless network before.

Problem #1
the router is not setup to send a wireless signal.

SOLUTION: run the setup wizard and make sure that the wireless options are turned on. If you would like help with getting into the wizard you can consult your manual and if needed i can find out how for you. Its usually a program that is installed or you can connect to your router through your browser for the configuration interface.

Problem #2
the router is transmitting a wireless signal but not the name of the signal (its called the "SSID")

SOLUTION: the same as above you must get access to the settings and make sure that there is a name in the SSID space and that it is transmitting said name.

just starting with the basics like i said we can work our way up if you still need assistance i will help.

Computer power won't turn on

First thing to do is try to plug the pc in another wall socket to see if it goes on, If not, the MB could have gotten fried, even though the other plugs seem to work. Hopfully you just need another surge protector as that could have gotten damaged.

I have a DI-624 router that worked fine while I was hooked to cable internet. It delivered wireless to my laptop. Now I have DSL and the router still wrked for the computer and telephone but not wireless....

Reset the router back to factory by using the small pinhole reset switch on the back. After that, you should just be able to plug and play.
