Question about KitchenAid Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a Kitchen Aid refrigerator. The model # is KTRS19MGWH01. Freezer drip pan does not drain - it keeps freezing up. Is it economically feasible to fix it or is it time to buy a new fridge?

OK I believe you may have some trash in the line or your refrigerator may be tilted causing the opening to slowly freeze over. Follow these links and try these before you buy, Click Here=> Leaking Refrigerators And click Here=> Leaking Refrigerators Just What may Be Happening

Bottom freezer has ice building up because when it defrosts it will not drain out through the back. Ice builds up to a point where I have water draining out the front of the freezer all over the floor....

I suppose the ice is building up in the drain trough under the evaporator (inside the freezer). There are two ways used to keep the trough from ice build up. It either has a heater built into it, or the defrost heater is close enough to the trough so that when the refer goes into defrost, it would melt any ice in the drain trough. Or the hose / pipe running from the trough to the drain pan it clogged, in which case you should be able to blow it clean. Note: this hose or pipe has to have a trap similar to the one under your kitchen sink. That is to prevent air from moving up, bringing undesired moisture into the fereezer.

Our refrigerator is cooling and our freezer is freezing, but there is a leak coming from the freezer area that is dripping down into the refrigerator that just keeps getting worse and worse. Appears that...

Hi maabjcraft,

Have you tried clearing the drain tube?

Your refrigerator has a drain that leads to the exterior drain pan beneath the refrigerator. Occasionally this drain can become clogged resulting in standing water inside your refrigerator. A similar drain exists in the freezer, which when clogged results in ice build up on the floor of the freezer.

The drain is located either on the floor of the refrigerator, beneath the vegetable crisper, or in the wall behind a drain funnel.

Clear the drain by forcing a solution of water and bleach or water and baking soda into it with a basting syringe. If the solution will not flow through, slide a length of 1/4 inch or smaller flexible tubing into the drain tube to push the clog through to the drain pan. Remove the tubing after clearing the clog.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hollow ice cubes and refrigerator freezer drip pan is freezing

The drain at the bottom of the evaporator on the freezer rear wall is blocked up. Ice may have gotten so far up the side of the evaporator that it is blocking a return air duct which is located there. You need to completely deice the freezer and then **** out and purge the drain hole on the bottom of the evapotrator with hot water and a turkey baster.

Water accumulating in bottom of freezer and leaking onto floor

Yes the drain is clogged and the water that supouse to go through became ice so it make it worse.Put hot water in the drain hole until it runs through,it'll go to an evaporative pan on top of the compresor to keep it warm and vaporize the water.

Water pooling and freezing inside bottom freezer.

make sure you have cleared the drain all the way to the drip pan, and the fridge should be tilted slightly to the rear for good drainage........make sure there is a clear path for the water to make it to the drain hole
