Question about Sony Car Audio & Video

2 Answers

Hello, I just installed a Sony 250mp stereo into a 94 jeep grand cherokee limited. I have all the wires connected correctly but the stereo only works when the ignition is in the acc position. Once I start my vehical the radio doesn't work at all. Any ideas?

Thanks, one more thing, I tested the wire which I believe is the right one for ignition. When I role the switch to either acc or start my test probe shows I have power from factory harness to the back of the stereo, it doesn't make sense that it shows power going to the back of the stereo. Theoretically it should be working. Can this still be a wrong wire hook up problem? Or a alarm problem from the jeep itself.

Ok, so I went and double checked my connections, I have the acc wire connected properly as well as the ign wire, I've checked the diagram countless times and even talked to a rep from scoche industries, the manufacturer of the cross over harness, the connections are pretty cut and dry, I was wondering if it might be the manufacturers security system because when you open the door the radio shuts off.

Although the advice was sound, I still believe there is more yo my issue. I have the wiring correct. And I still believe it has something to do with the manufacturers security system. Why else would so many issues with lights blinking locks malfunctioning etc keep happening. Again all the wiring is correct.

This indicates that there has been a mix up in the wiring. Usually the acc position is when power begins to flow through the entire car system and also the power continues to flow when the car is turned on. But in your situation where the power was tapped from does not supply power when the vehicle is turned on. This happens when the source of the power powers something else when the vehicle is turned on. This could cause serious hazards to your car system if not sorted out properly as this could cause a car fire.
Best way to sort it out is to get an expert to help retrace the entire power wiring of the stereo. If possible get the stereo uninstalled and a fresh installation carried out so all the wires will be in place.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

You have the power leads hooked up incorrectly, One lead is the "Keep Alive Memory", that is always hot (battery +), the second power lead is to the ignition on position, it is hot only when the key is turned to run or the truck is running. You will have two wires in the Jeeps stock harness that will be hot all the time and one that will have battery power when the key is turned to run, here are those wire colors, hook them to the corresponding power leads shown in the installation diagram of the Sony radio.
Jeep radio harness colors:
Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Pink
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Violet/White
If you have the wires hooked up right then just find a power sources that is hot when the key is in run or accessory at the base of the steering column and tap into it.

I have done hundreds of stereo installs over the years, and the wiring is always the first problem you look at, please follow my advice, have been doing this for 35 years.

The security system has nothing to do with the radio shutting off, it is called delayed exit, this keeps all accessories running until the control module senses the door is open.

Find another circuit that is switched by the ignition, then use that for the switched power to the radio, it is the easiest way around this.Make sure the wire you tap into stays hot when the door is opened and that it shuts off when the ignition key is turned off.

I have a 94 cherokee limited 5.2 v8. which transmissions are come

The 46rh is a hydraulic transmission as where the 46re is an electric transmission. With minor wiring you can replace the 46re with the 46rh but not the other way around. Your transmission would stay in limp mode and wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear. So the answer is no.

Installing an aftermarket CD player.

Go to a stereo sales & installation shop, or even auto parts places usually have them now too, and get an adapter harness for your particular vehicle. They plug directly in to your existing harness, then you simply wire your new stereo to it,via directions. Few bucks now, will save hours of aggravation later,.and if you decide to sell vehicle later, and put old one back in, it's all there to plug back in, nice & clean.

I HAVE A 94 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE PUTTING A PIONEER DEH-1900MP STEREO IN AND WHEN I SHUT IT OFF THE STEREO WONT SAVE THE PRESET STATIONS

the problem is you dont have the battery wire on the radio hooked up to a 12v constant. it sounds like you have to take the battery wire of the radio and hook it up to a wire that stays 12v all the time even when the car is off.
