If the motor is using a single phase supply there will be a capacitor which could have reduced in value- open.
If so try and use a capacitor in parallel to see if the motor works-- in this case the motor might hum and get heated up.

The trip circuit has a time delay for resetting. Wait about 30 to 60 seconds and it should work when resetting.

Go to searspartsdirect.com and put in your model number. Look at the motor and wiring section. Look at item 16. The motor overload protector. (probably your reset button) WIth saw unplugged, unwire one sid of this switch and test with an ohm meter. You should read through the switch. If it is open then that's why the saw doesn't work. Many of this type of oveload requires quite a push to reset as you're flexing a klixon disc back to make contact. If is open and you can't reset, it's available there although a bit high priced.

First of all, how did you determine that power was getting to the motor? If you can test for power with a voltmeter at the motor connections themselves and show power then the switch is OK and the circuit breaker is not tripped. Turn off power and attempt to turn the blade " CAREFULLY" and if it moves easily then the motor is probably defective and will have to be replaced. After turning the motor and finding it easy to turn, then turn the power back on and try to start the saw again. Be carefull because the saw may start. If the blade will not turn then the motor is definitely defective and will have to be replaced.

Good Luck!

My delta table will not start. I just used it yesterday. I don't understand. The power source is good. What is it?

Hi, check the motor for any external reset. Some have this, and others have the internal overload. If the motor is cool and its been off, it must have tripped the overload. Find the reset and your back in business!! Good Luck.

Most likely to quit suddenly is the switch.
My table saw switch broke recently, and at first I thought it was the motor.
Over the years I remember seeing table saws fitted with a handy box and ordinary light switch to replace the table saw switch.
Check for power at motor: Sometimes the wire connection from switch has access box on the motor where you can get in and check for power.

Make sure you didn't go from a 220 power source to a 110 source. Longer extensin cords, especially smaller gauge cords will reduce power to the saw. Harder on the motor too.

Is this a direct drive or belt drive saw? If belt drive, you can remove the belt and try spinning the motor by hand then turn it on. Sometimes they can get stopped in a dead spot. Do not get your hands/fingers in the way when turning it on. You may need all of them someday.

DEWALT 740 ARM SAW.SAW STOPPED AND WON'T RESTART.POWER AT PLUG IS GOOD IS THERE A INLINE FUSE SOME WERE?

There is no fuse, and I am no electician...however, I had the same issue and a friend and I took the on/off switch apart, and discovered that it is some sort of "dual" type and it was/is defective. He said it could be jerry-rigged and work as a single switch, but I never did get around to fix it. I was actually looking to source the defective part (if possible), when I found your question. Good luck to both of us.

How to reset a 740 power shop radial arm saw. Saw stopped during a cut. Breaker is good. Power source is good. Can find the reset button.

Hi Welby:
My saw is not a DeWalt, but the procedure should be similar.
First, WORK SAFE! UNPLUG THE SAW.
Now you can explore without the prospect of having it bite you.
Here are the things I would do:
1) Set the On/Off switch to OFF
2) Have a look at the motor. There should be RED (typical) reset button. When you find it give it a good solid push.
3) Check to make sure the On/Off switch is still OFF.
4) Plug in the saw.
5) Try turning it on.
If it does not work, I would unplug it and use a continuity meter to start checking the various components, especially the On/Off switch. If it has failed and you can't get a replacement you could
do as I have with an old Craftsman. It is 110 or 220, and has only been used on 110. Half of the switch terminals had arced over 40 years of use, so I just re-wired the switch to use the other terminals but still be 110. .

Table saw Types

Portable table saws perform many of the functions of larger stationary table saws but have a decided advantage in their mobility. High mobility makes them the perfect choice for framing and deck building. They're also a good choice for small shops with limited space. Stationary saws added power enables the saw to run knives and cutters designed to mill and remove large amounts of stock and usually accept more accessories than portable saws.
