Question about Asrock 775VM800 Motherboard

1 Answer

Good day, dear Experts :) My MB is an Asrock 775 VMS with WinXP SP3 , Intel Celeron 2.8 GHz , 2G RAM , PS Chieftec 500V. I use the motherboard's AGP slot for VC, preferring various Radeon cards, like 9600 , 9800 Pro and lately an X1650. The X1650 unfortunately "died" (the onboard cooling fan stopped for some mechanical reason and fried the chipset), so I'm using the 9800 Pro again without problems. Last week I tried to install a Gigabyte HD4650 1GB GDDR2 AGP , but the system refused to start (the BIOS started, detected the HD and other 5.25 drives then froze dead - not even allowing tweaking (F2 / F11 functions simply do not work). The Chieftec 500V is OK, I measured the voltage, both the 5V/12V branches give full power. The HD4650's onboard ventillation is working correctly. Right now I'm using again my 9800 Pro. Maybe the MB is "too old" for this type of video card ? THANK YOU very much ! BB , Hungary

Thank you, zero77cool ! I unfortanely omitted the information that in order to minize the number of possible faulty parts I installed the HD4650 into another, very old PC (with a year 2001 Soltek MB) where it worked without problems under a weaker PS (350 W)... so the video card seems to be OK, so must be the 500W Chieftec... maybe the AGP-standard is not correctly handled by the BIOS that is only v1.4 (I might upgrade to v1.5 but I don't like the idea).

The HD4650 is a power hungry card. If the entiresystem refuses to start, then the power supply may not be able to run the configuration.
Of course, this is just a possibility, or your card is just damaged.

Theres no reason for the Chieftec to fail. If your 9800 works fine, then the PSU can be ruled out. And yes, like you said, the bios version might be a problem. However, its a little of a long shot. You mentioned all the other cards working fine. Then again, flashing your bios shouldnt be that difficult now should it :) ?

Yeah, I hope so :) Thank you very much for your attention to my problem !

What type of dual core processor can I use for my dc7600?

The motherboard for the dc7600 has an Intel LGA775 processor socket. However, not all LGA775 processors are compatible with the motherboard. For the small form factor, the following CPUs are supported: Intel Celeron D Processors:
Intel Celeron D 331 Processor (2.66-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 336 Processor (2.80-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 346 Processor (3.06-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium 4 Processors with HT Technology:
Intel Pentium 4 521 Processor (2.8-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 524 Processor (3.06-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 541 Processor (3.2-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 620 Processor (2.8-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 630 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 631 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 641 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 650 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 651 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 661 Processor (3.6-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) or
Intel Pentium D Dual Core Processors:
Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core Processor (2.66-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 820 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 925 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 930 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core Processor (3.2-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 945 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

I wish that I had better news for you.

851 MHz Celeron Processor

*********** board will support a max of 1GB of RAM. Your processor is an Intel at 1.8 GHz. The preceding is only true if your PC is the Emachines T1840 as you chose in the category listing of your post. Again if that is true, you can achieve the max RAM by installing a 512MB stick in each of the two memory slots.
Good luck.

PS: Gdlkn84as528 is correct in assuming that a less than 1.3GHz Intel processor would be a P3 or equivalent processor. So which is it, it can't be both ways?

You can also use any other intel 775 socket processor as well. The dual cores are at the top of the list for performance that are compatible with that board, but if you're looking for a cheaper solution, I have that board with a 3GHz pentium 4 and it runs great. Here's a list of all the processors you can use.
Intel Pentium 4 (2.66 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition
(3.20 - 3.73 GHz)

Some help with Asrock P4i45GV motherboard

compatibility issue only. the 2.4 you replace is it celeron? or P4?. Bus speed check also. if you are using WIN XP OS, you go to control panel, systems, then general check what is the processor type. it will still show 2.0G but running at lower speed. That would confirm incompatible cpu with your board.
